  • The garden furniture fund looks like it will be untouched for a bit longer, we went back to the garden centre to see if we could order what we wanted and got told the manufacturer isn't even looking at new orders until July!  The set they had was an eight seater and we only want six and it wasn't the chairs we wanted either so no go there.
My £10.50 overpayment has registered in the mortgage account so I''ve overpaid by £1573.25 this month.

  • I've made an interesting loaf of sourdough this morning. I'm experimenting with various ways to do a second rise. This time I tried to rise it in the casserole dish I bake it in lined with greaseproof , I came down this morning and it had risen so much it had stuck to the lid but came off easily. I took it out and heated the dish, ut it back in and by then it had risen even more and the lid was touching the dough again. Baked it and its almost the exact shape of the casserole. I think I need a smaller mixture next time as this starter is very active it seems. We'll be having it with some mackerel pate for super tonight.
Yesterday I took MIL out for a walk and a bacon batch alongside the marina. I was concerned how hard she was finding it to walk, she made about quarter of a mile, whereas at Xmas she did at least a mile without problems. Still it was just nice to be out and it wasn't crowded where we were at all. £13.80 spent for batches and hot drinks.
I'm off soon to the garden centre with neighbour as she wants to get some bits and just get out as she's hardly been anywhere for months either. I sure she'll drive me made but it might earn me some time out of purgatory (she's 78). I need to have a good chat with her as she's just paid over £2000 for another bloody k@rby vacuum cleaner, this is the third in six years. She's got more than enough money but I think this is beginning to look like financial p!sstaking from them. She doesn't even use it herself as its too heavy, she has a cleaner or gets the lads from across the road to do it for her. Ourselves and the various other neighbours try and keep an eye out but this one snuck under the radar.

Thank you to you and your neighbours for keeping an eye on your neighbour.

Hopefully, now the weather is improving your MIL will be able to get out more and be able to build up her strength and stamina.

They're far from the only one, we clocked one day that she was paying a huge amount for her landline so got her to query it with us there, the supplier (a well known national one) had signed her up for fibre broadband despite her not using the internet at all at that stage, she had being paying for it for months. The supplier claimed it was a 'misunderstanding' but also claimed that they didn't have a recording of the call when she'd been sold it. they refunded her but only because I was making loud noises about Ofcom in the background.
Took MIL to the garden centre today for a trundle round and she bought lots of bits for her pots and some bean plants so she's happy. We had some lunch so it felt like a bit of a day out again. It was a no spend day for me as she paid this time (I'd paid on Monday) Planning on having some markdown breaded chicken filets as burgers for dinner, cheap and easy meal.

  • Latest level of cat gitery in the Porridge household, said cat has climbed into the box of loo rolls and had great fun ripping bits off them. I went to get one today and the paper wrapper is in bits and he's destroyed the first few layers as well. When asked about his role in this wanton destruction he did a good imitation of a current politician when accused of sleaze. No comment!
Little old lady cat is still refusing to remove herself from the wine box except for very short periods for essential needs. Still it stops us unpacking it and drinking it I guess.
I've not got much planned for today, the first load of washing is in and I want to plant some bean seeds and plant out some more toms into bigger pots and then I'll see what I need to do. Its the last proper day of the holidays so I'm not planning on doing too much.

So many things get left around our house rather than being put or thrown away because Puss has decided it is her new favourite place to sleep.
