@OLaney thank you for your support. Are you keeping a diary too?
    Evening!

No I’m not keeping a diary but I am also on the frugal living forum as well and am getting a lot of tips from there too! I will post on here as to where I am on my journey so we can all travel down the road together.
I keep getting a request through eBay to give them my bank details so I can bypass PayPal as well....however, I am not overly keen to do this as I don’t find them to be the most secure site unless you change your password every week. Only say this because my partners eBay account got hacked into twice with suspicious activity happening because of the hack. He consequently closed his account in the end. So this kind of puts me off a bit. I have currently kept my PayPal account active on there but also a bit miffed that I’m effectively paying commission twice 🤷‍♀️.
I opened a Monzo account for that very reason. The only money going in is from Ebay and as soon as it is in there I pay it towards a debt so the balance is almost always £0.
    Total debt at peak 2021 = £38931
Debt at start of diary £31,073.95
    Current debt = £25402.41
    Paid off = 33.22%
    Next - £278.30/ £0.00
    Simply Be £62.95/ £0.00
    Very £617.09/ £0.00
    Paypal £1974.00/ £0.00
    Mum £5800/ £5000
    Yorkshire bank £7,000/ £2037.12
    Tesco credit card 0% £9000/ £8800
    Virgin CC 0% £10,000/ £9220.38

  • Not much happening today, nothing to report really. Disappointingly, the advice I received when I phoned Next the other day was incorrect and it WAS the higher amount that was due so I still had £82.50 to pay off. I have a top to return for £25 and I paid £50 off today so it will still be cleared but I thought it had already been done. I need to get some sandwich filler as my son has a packed lunch on a Friday as a special treat. I also spent £1 on some bear cakes. Billy bears? He can have one in his packed lunch tomorrow. I also need to top up on pepsi max. I have a £25 amazon voucher but they won' have any in stock until March so I'll get some when I take the top back, that will be another £16. Leftover dinner for lunch, I'm going to make some flapjacks and a sultana cake and I think that is all. Very quiet debt paying day.

Chin-up kid you’re doing so well, next is a minor set back but you can’t clear everything everyday, just look forward to the weekend now 😊

That’s good to know! Thanks for this I shall look into it 😊
  • What about a 0% purchase card and buy your everyday stuff on it and pay off the money instead? I'm surprised you haven't been offered any money transfers though tbh. Do you have a card with virgin or tesco as they seem to be popular ones for money transfers. RBS should give you the option to overpay your loan so I'd ask them the details for making regularly payments rather than ringing up every time.

@Sarahwithlove I will do when I phone them up to make the first one. I don't think I would trust myself with a purchase card. That sounds truly terrifying to me. I know myself and I can see me ending up being far worse with one of those. Worse off than paying interest.

I agree Flapflop that the element of having unused 0% credit will only serve to fuel the problem. With a degrading balance on a current account it is far better to psychologically deal with it.

Perhaps when you are much further down the line it would be something to consider.
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

It's about what's best for you and if you know what's not an option then it's good you know yourself well enough.

  • Hi flapflop, I hope you’ve had a good day! Anymore sales on the ‘bays’?

i was very naughty yesterday I spent £3.47 in Aldi on stuff I didn’t need. But then I did manage to scrounge a dinner off my relatives in my support bubble so don’t feel too bad like one cancels out the cost of the other lol.

@MrFrugalFever Absolutely and there's nothing like a free meal. Nothing sold on Ebay and nothing sold on FB. I feel bereft and unwanted. Actually, worse than that, someone is returning something. I had a necklace that we were told was stirling silver so I sold it as such. Turns out that the chain was stirling silver but the settings weren't. I dont begrudge them wanting a refund at all but its a bummer.
I also went to the shop today to top up. A £30 top up! I'm struggling to remember what I bought. Eggs, dog treats, toothpaste, hand soap, cereal. I know there is more but I am drawing a complete blank. Cellotape, that was another one. Soap pads. Jeeeeez thats dreary.
