It may be a change to a combi boiler which can involve pipework.
Even if there is a lot of re-piping required, that still would not mean three days / two nights without functioning heating.  A competent plumber would do all the pipe changes off-line and then, when everything is prepped, drain the system, do the cut-ins and swap the boiler all in one shift.
Unfortunately the OP has chosen BG to do the work, so little chance of that.
As has been said, the heating should be off for one night at most if this were being done by a competent RGI.

Even if the work only takes 8 working hours, cheapie hotel rooms for one night is usually 3pm - 11am (ish). With no cafes or similar open, to be out of the house 9-5, it'd mean booking two nights in a hotel - even if they don't stay the second night. I'm not going to debate the necessity, just something I think most people have missed when questioning the two nights.

Depending on the size of the house and the work to be done it might be difficult to socially distance.
However, the OP has not logged on since 22nd so probably didn't  get eh answer he wanted.

I think the OP did say they’d booked two nights, presumably for that reason. So that would cover it. Maybe they don’t want to be in a cold house while it’s done, nothing wrong with that.

You say a local premier Inn.  How near is it to your house?  For example, I have two Premier Inn within walking distance of home - if I stayed there that would obviously not be a holiday.
    15 miles away

OP talked about hotels 15 miles away, not 50, but in any event there is no such rule. The problem is that hotel and other accommodation is required to close, except for guests who are within one of the exceptions. Having the boiler replaced isn't on the list of exceptions, unless the house is uninhabitable as a result. If one of the exceptions applies, you can stay in a hotel 200 miles away (if you are working away, for example, or attending a memorial service).

To be fair, i do sympathise with the OP.
Lets say they had comorbidities or were elderly and didn't want the risk of staying in a cold house, and being amongst workers while they are working. It doesn't sound like they are trying to be illigitimate. Its a premier inn 15 miles away. hardly party time is it. Particularly in this snowy weather I wouldn't say its unreasonable to stay somewhere where they can stay warm.

As others have said, british gas boilers are overpriced and pot luck on the installers. I had one done by them in a property years ago. Although installed well and has been working for 20years without problems now, the cleanliness and aesthetics of how they did the pipework/worktop cutting left a lot to be desired for the price. Having had boilers done by local tradesmen since, definitely a reliable local plumber is the way to go. Have also used boxt in a family property recently, and they were pretty decent too.
