Boiler to be replaced

Hello,
British Gas are replacing our boiler in early Feb, this is due to it being on its last legs and long overdue replacement.
As we will be without heating and hot water, we have planned to stay in a local Premier Inn for 2 nights, while the work is being done.
Today I received an email saying that if my reservation is for holiday or leisure purposes that we should cancel it. Does the house being essential uninhabitable while the work is going ahead constituent necessary travel and another stay?
Government guidance is not clear, so can anyone shed any light on this please?

You say a local premier Inn.  How near is it to your house?  For example, I have two Premier Inn within walking distance of home - if I stayed there that would obviously not be a holiday.

Boil water in  the kettle and  electric  heaters
Our boiler was changed in less than a day.

Why is it taking 2 nights away?  That means 3 working days to swap a boiler - a job that is usually done in half a day.

Why did you pick a hotel so far away from home?

    Perhaps that's the nearest one.

Personally, I'd say it is leisure.  You shouldn't need to leave the house for such a short period, even at this time of year, so it's a choice, which implies a leisure stay to me.
  • Does seem odd that you feel the need to move out, just for a boiler replacement, unless you have a medical condition! British Gas will supply heaters and sometimes supply hot water urn's. They certainly used to.

My boiler was changed today , the last one died completely Monday night so we have been without heat or hot water for 3 days and managed with a low powered gas fire in one room (although a fan heater would have been as good) and boiling kettles for washing. The boiler was changed today and took 2 men about 6 hours which was longer than they anticipated as they hit an issue with the wall it was to be mounted on and had to do some minor building work and repair. The boiler is running now but we have an airlock in the system which they are coming back to deal with tomorrow, so we have heat but no water as yet.

Being without a working boiler isn’t fun and I really appreciate modern living and the ability to turn on a tap and get hot water, but I’m not sure I would have felt the need to go and stay in a hotel especially with the current virus issues.
