How to proceed with sale (I'm the seller) when buyer needs to use Shiply

Hi MSEers
I've hopefully sold a table on ebay... The buyer first contacted me asking for shipping quotes so I posted the job to Shiply. Some quotes have come in that he is happy with. If he proceeds with the sale, what's best to do? Should I as the seller book the courier through Shiply? Or should I tell him to book it? I guess my concern would be if I were to book it and then he not be home when they try to deliver - or something along those line - the onus would be on me.
What's the usual and best path in situations such as these?
Many thanks

If I was the seller I'd want the buyer to sort out Shiply.
If I was the buyer I'd want the seller to sort out Shiply.
Reason for that is the eBay money back guarantee excludes:- Collection items damaged during shipment when shipment arranged by the buyer
- Items collected by a third party on behalf of the buyer

I bought some chairs on Ebay and had them delivered at my expense.
I got a price from a delivery company and agreed with the seller to pay this plus a bit more for packing.
The seller sent me a Paypal payment request for this extra money and all went well.
So for Ebay the seller could show they had paid for the delivery and it was their responsibility till they arrived.
All went well and both of us were happy with the transaction.0 -

That sale may have gone well but what if the buyer claims the table is scratched and claims a refund? How will you getthe table back? And you will refund them the full amount including delivery. My choice would say its cash on collection only. Whether they arrange a courier who will pay the cash then thats fine.It may go well and be hassle free or it maybe another thread where it doesnt go so well.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

The buyer has arranged the courier through Shiply and will be paying the courier themselves. So that means I'm protected from the above aren't I?0

Just ask yourself what will happen if after a couple of weeks the buyer puts in an item not received claim through Ebay. How will you prove delivery to Ebays satisfaction when you did not pay for it?0

Looks like I've messed up then! I guess I thought the onus wouldn't be on me because THEY have organised the courier and therefore the courier is THEIR responsibility. So presumably it doesn't work like that then?
I've only used Shiply as a buyer in the past, and each time I as the buyer organised and paid for it. What I do remember is that when the job is accepted on Shiply, the buyer, seller and courier have can have three way chats via Shiply, and as such both access all of the courier messages too. I guess it's not tracking as such, but it is updates whilst in transit. It will be sent o the Paypal/eBay address. And hopefully the courier will update the message board when it is delivered. Perhaps I can ask them to take a photo when delivered and upload that to the message board?
I'll have a look at the sticky in the morning when my brain is a little more willing. Thanks for the suggestion. And thanks also for the replies and help.
On the plus side, I did liaise with the buyer about other items of interest but in the end he decided to just buy the one item. That gives me some faith that he's not scamming, otherwise he might as well have bought the lot and hit the jackpot!

Scammers are often the most convincing. They could get the item for the cost of delivery by opening a case.Maybe they thought the cost of postage was too much to get other items shipped? Maybe its genuine, you wontknow until teh deals done and the date they can clain a refund has passed. That could be 30 days, 180 days oreven 6 years depending on the item and value.I bought a solid wooden table off ebay and took a saw to it as i only needed a certain size, missed out on the perfectitem as their description went on how it had been in the family for many years.. I could not put myself in theposition to have them watch me take a circular saw to it.A damaged or scratched item would have been fine, i only needed some of it. You never know what a buyerplans on using the item for. Maybe they have another buyer lined up, maybe they want it complete andperfect maybe a little imperfection is OK or maybe they only need bits of it?You can ask them to upload anything you like, but a picture may show a fault whether its visible with thenaked eye or not.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Hi all
Been trying to get this sorted all day - it's all a bit of s stress!!
Can I just check a couple of things please? With the buyer having arranged the courier through Shiply:
- If Shiply confirm that the item is being delivered to the eBay / registered PP address
- If the Shiply courier gives me a tracking number
- If the Shiply courier adds me to the Shiply messages so that I cam kept up to date RE collection, delivery etc.
Is that all together enough to protect me against an INR?
Regarding scratches or any other damage, as he's arranging and paying for the courier, am I already not liable for that??
Many thanks for the help0
