We accepted an offer on our house mid august, and got an offer accepted on the house we are buying on 25th August. There was a bit of a delay with mortgages from our buyers (they are first time buyers), and their searches etc but they have all come back now.
We have been told that the upper chain has completed everything, but still awaiting complete confirmation.
we have signed our contracts from both ends, and out sellers have signed etc (solicitors advised us to do this so they can hold on file till needed)
my solicitor has been trying to get hold of our buyers solicitor to get confirmation that they hold signed contracts in readiness
myself and my solicitor have been trying to find out what is happening in the upper chain, but no one seems to be getting back to us (we've been trying for a week)
i appreciate it's a very busy time but we seem to e going 1 step forward and 2 steps back
Please tell me I'm not the only person who feels like this?

What does the estate agent say?
I was due to exchange on a Friday (the day was proposed by my sellers and their sellers) and I heard nothing from any of their solicitors until the day pretty much ended and we got word there were still enquiries outstanding. Same again on Monday and Tuesday - I gave authority to exchange first thing and then silence from the other parties.
I got my seller's EA to chase.
A week is a bit worrying though if your supposed to be on the cusp of exchanging. I'd be pestering the EA.0 -
we cannot seem to get hold of the estate agents either side. Most of them are working from home so we've been emailing them. When ever we ring the office they say they will ask them to contact us, which never happens!
Sorry to hear you are going through a difficult situation as well. It is so frustrating.0 -

I am in a similar ish position.Only 2 in our chain. Was meant to exchange Friday but last minute minor issue. Was told Monday morning (yesterday) it was resolved and they’d look to exchange.
Heard nothing all day.Nothing so far today, just called for an update and legal assistant took a message.0 -
Thankfully that was back in November and I finally exchanged on the Thursday afternoon with completion Friday.Km2020 said:we cannot seem to get hold of the estate agents either side. The silence was infuriating. I have a colleague who house sale fell through the day he was due to exchange so I was paranoid that something was going on with my purchase. Didn't believe the sellers weren't available to take a call the day they were due to make a exchange in two houses
Hopefully you hear something soon!0 -

I feel like solicitors/estate agents have taken on too much and just cannot cope with the demand. Just really disappointing when you get told one then and then it doesn't happen, and no one responds to you.1 -
that is my hear that everything will fall through! it's really disheartening, especially when you hear it has not gone to plan for other peopleMaryNB said:

Really irritating.Home buying yet again!! Fingers crossed!!

3 years ago ==> Completed!! PROUD homeowner from now on!:beer::beer::beer:0 -
We are waiting to hear about exchanging today or tomorrow. We offered on a property at the beginning of July! We lost our buyer at the beginning of November and it has just dragged on and on. Apparently buyers solicitors are waiting for my solicitor to action something and then we are good to go. We have removals booked for the 27th as our mortgage offer expires on the 29th! We should be able to do it, but desperately waiting to hear anything. Spoke to our solicitors secretary and left a message to get her to action whatever needs doing.
Had enough, don't feel I can really get stuck into packing until we exchange....

Definitely agree, although it's not a very popular stance around here for some reason.. have posted about it before and been told to pay more if I want good service. Well fool me for believing what's advertised I guess!Km2020 said:
