The number of chains replaced is indicative of the quality of the product, not through heavy use.

I've asked Amazon if its possible to set-up the web-site so that when you click "Add to Basket" or "Buy Now" you can be assured that you are buying from Amazon and not a third party as now I am having issues with the Seller who I had no idea when purchasing is in Germany and so far has not responded.
See screenshot on page 1 of this thread - Amazon couldn't make it any clearer! The seller is shown directly under the Add to Basket and Buy It Now buttons for every single item. The seller is also "clickable" so that you can look at information about them which includes country location and buyer ratings as just two items of information about them.
Sorry, but that's rubbish. Amazon could make it a lot clearer, and deliberately don't.

Firstly, the seller detailsd is under the 'Buy Now' button, now above, so is after the natural order of reading. It also reads  "Dispatched from and sold by..." rather than the more obvious "Sold by and dispatched from". There's no title, nor any bold, unlike the 'Add Extra Protection' section. And of course the whole page is Amazon branded.

It does use the order "sold by and dispatched from" it the seller is company X and it is fulfilled by Amazon. Perhaps it's clear and obvious to me because I've been using the site since 2000 and know the difference between the different selling options available, but I don't think the information is unclear or positioned inappropriately on the screen.
  • Any idea the make and model of the saw?

  • I've got the UC4041A which looks to be the same saw just with a slightly bigger 40cm bar.

Never had an issue with the chain breaking (brand is ALM from Amazon, don't think they are anything special), and the bar is good after going through around 70 tonne of wood, from 2 inch logs up to 18 inch trunks (a neighbour gives a helping hand for the bits bigger than that).

I'll hazard the question again, when you say the bar failed what happened exactly?

The end of it split open so it couldn’t hold a chain properly.

Thanks OP, I think you can rule out consumable part that needs to be replaced from time to time as that shouldn't happen, probably explains why your chains were breaking.

So did you just message Amazon CS or did you actually message the 3rd party seller as well and they ignored you?

If you did message the 3rd party seller was this before or after the 15th of Dec?

I've spoken with Amazon several times on the telephone and also lots of online chat and it depends on who you get on the other end, which varies from some individuals that aren't very helpful at all, but I'm pleased to say that most are excellent.  However yesterday I was told one thing which was promising and looking like a resolution was going to happened on Tuesday, then overnight I got what looks like an automated email telling me that I could expect to wait another 5 to 7 days for the seller to respond.  I went back today and told Amazon that the service is sub-standard, if I bought a chainsaw from a DIY store I could take it back within 12 months and get a replacement with no issues.

That might have been what you told them, but it is completely incorrect under UK consumer law. If you know of a DIY store which offers such a generous goodwill policy then please post their name as a lot of people would be very interested in purchasing from them.
