Polly its not a conspiricy theory:  MS has been installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling , installing uninstalling  for more than a year  on a new device. It has no purpose to do this this is not a conspiracy but fact backed up by factual posts to MS and MSNET and thier support network ,. My question was why are they cleaning my device when there is no evidence of what they put on it in the first place ! .

There is no explaination why NortenLifeLoc again asked for the licence number again stating "Thank you for the key, I have located the key." The new thread I posted today shows an image after that shiwing nothing was done with it . If Linux can provide its updates in the open without rebooting the OS . Why cannot MS? Has all thier programmers left them; lol

    ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Why would they offer me something free I have already purchased !

Diddy , It didnt achieve any update  it spent nearly 35 minutes uninstalling it as you saw from youtube video https://youtu.be/C-vIO0yNVoo. So what  did it need to clean or what else was put on it ?

    That doesn't matter.
The fact that an update was attempted and not completed means that your system will require some cleaning up to get it back to the same state that it was before the update was attempted.
It's because the update failed to complete that it needed cleaning. If cleaning didn't take place to remove the attempted update, your computer would end up being totally unusable.

A question that has already been answered by my earlier post.
    Look at it like this.
Suppose you decided to service your car and wanted to change the air filter.
To do this, you needed to remove the old filter and fit the replacement but when you came to put it in, you discovered that it wouldn't fit correctly so you removed it and refitted the original unit.
There would therefore be no evidence left on your car to show that an attempt had been made to update the air filter because you had cleaned up the car to make it usable again.
That is basically what has happened with your computer and Windows updates failing to load properly is a fairly common occurrence and there is no conspiracy and it's not happening so that Microsoft can load anything dodgy without your knowledge or permission.

If only it were that simple!! The stumbling block is that Norton wants to store payment card details to activate the licence on the version that Max2010 has bought, which he's not prepared to give.

Sorry, Max2010, I can't find your new thread so I don't know what you posted on it.
If NortonLifeLock have asked you for the licence number/key again, is it possible they've unlocked it manually so it'll work without payment card details?
Have you tried entering the licence number again to register it in your account?

  • Just use Microsoft Defender (Windows 10) - no use for any other AV

I think you might want to consider giving up computing and trying to find some less stressful pursuits
Why does Microsoft need to cleen up what did it do that it needed to clean?
Temporary files will be created as part of the updating process (imagine an archive of updates downloaded in one file, these will be unpacked - which unless 'cleaned up' later will just sit there taking space)

Amazon, Netflix, Microsoft, Tesco store my card details!
When I shop at Aldi, Waitrose, or use the chuck wagon. My card details fly around the ether, even when I do it contactless! Only once in 43 years of banking, including when I used my Access Card years ago on paper copy machine, has my details been compromised, and that was a German based website, but my bank notice the fraud and it cost me nothing!

No sorry am not giving up why do you clearly keep talking about conspiracy of MS would you like me to share every post I sent MS in the last year and evidence this ?. There is more than a few , more than ten , more than fifty  and so on all about not providing updates. What the real reason is for this restart of my device without permission when they have been asked more than 50 times to DESIST. Your analagy for the companies Black Beard is not the same Amazon , Netflix Microsoft (wow your brave) , Tescos all store at Point of Sale Norton Life Loc does not it is still procecessing data without providing evidence of being subscribed to information regulator. I really cannot see why they are not delivering the sale of goods that the retailer promissed . Perhaps they need to recosider stocking this product I will right to them on day thirty.
