PC without WiFi

OK, I now actually have a Netgear ProSAFE 8 Port Gigabit Switch - GS108.
The diagram on how to connect shows a connection between this product and the router. There is no separate connection lead in the box - just a power connection.
Do I simply need some Cat 6 cable with 2 ends and then just plug them in?

Of course they have different IP addresses they are two separate networked devices, that doesn't mean they're not on the same network and can't be visible to each other.Terrysdelight said:I have just discovered the Printer is on one IP address and the PC is on a different one. I admit to not knowing a great deal but at least I am open to looking into how things work .... Phaaaaaaaaaaw!0 -
I think we established this a while back - thanks though.neilmcl said:

That WAN port is for connecting to a separate modem or wifi extender I believe, it's not for connecting directly to the PC.Terrysdelight said:
It was connected up on the WAN port purely because there was no other connections. My friend just plugged it in there in front of me - I thought he knew what he was doing. It's only been like this a couple of weeks, but clearly I can see the gigabit switch thing will resolve this issue.Mickey666 said:Yes, fair point about really needing to know the reasoning behind the PC-on-the-WAN-port issue. An Ethernet switch will certainly solve the printer connectivity issue (as would the USB wifi stick suggestion), but without a better understanding of the WAN port thing, it's possible that disconnecting it will cause some other issue we're not aware of. OTOH, if it doesn't then it could be a baby-stepping win! Let's hope so.

Yes. Or Cat5e will do over such short distances. Generally referred to as Ethernet 'patch leads'Terrysdelight said:OK, I now actually have a Netgear ProSAFE 8 Port Gigabit Switch - GS108.
