PC without WiFi

The red cable is connected to the router on the desk. The black cable is connected into the back of the PC I am using. There are lots of empty sockets next to it.

he won't need an all singing/dancing one since his router is very close, and as it's just for printing circa £5-10 should cover it. See if you can get a 600 mbps one.Does his pc connect to the internet, and is there a model for the BT box ?4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Thanks Mickey666. No I didn't have much knowledge around the router and appreciate your explanation. It does make a lot of sense to me now. I can see there isn't actually two internet connections at all. I have somehow managed to the PC directly to the actual internet address, bypassing the router.
I do believe the answer is to buy one of the USB wifi adapter from Amazon.
I guess I better had get off of this direct internet address or I am going to end up with a virus?0 -
Any idea which would be best?

Good question - would be interesting to confirm what that BT Box is actually doing and why it is needed.debitcardmayhem said:he won't need an all singing/dancing one since his router is very close, and as it's just for printing circa £5-10 should cover it. I am guessing , wildly , that he may have BT business line the whole of 217.x.y.z is assigned to BT if I remember correctly. Also the fact that his router is in the LAN port it is using this box for point to point for fixed IP address. Why the PC is in the wan port I dunno I would have expected it to be in one of the ethernet basic ports. However speculation may lead us down the wrong road entirely. It's not easy to remote guess to help someone helping an other who doesn't seem to know what they have. At least the OP has been forthcoming with what they find.Mickey666 said:

Reasonable guess, as you say it's difficult to know without more info. Wonder why he would need a fixed internet though? Hosting his own website perhaps? Presumably that BT box is providing some sort of firewall - would be risky to be connected directly to the internet without one.0

The PC being connected to the WAN port is really weird. Unless the ports are mislabelled. I'd be phoning up BT to figure out what's going on.

YEah but you have the rudimentary one built in MS Security or maybe a 3rd party AV but anyone's guess.Mickey666 said:Reasonable guess, as you say it's difficult to know without more info.
