According to a text I received today, Three will increase prices of the 321 call charges as follows:
    Calls 3p/min to 10p/min (333%)
    Texts 2p to 10p (500%)
    Data 5p/Mb to 10p/Mb (200%)

Mine says data is going up to 5p from 1p.

Precisely. The opening post in this thread is incorrect. I posted a link to three's detailed page in the thread with the sensible title here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/77956659/#Comment_77956659

There was no explanation in the text or Website of a justification to explain such unbelievebly huge increases.
Bit of a bummer for me as I have credit of over £50 credit which would no doubt not willingly be refunded when I move to a new supplier!
Many apologies, in my haste I misquoted the increases.  As others have pointed out Data is doe to go up from 1p to 5p/Mb (500% increase)

Three have told my via an online chat that any credit you have before the increase date will be used at the "old" 3-2-1 rate.
So, I might as well top up my credit (i only use about £10/year anyway) before the increase date.
Sadly, I didn't keep a copy of the chat. Might have to do it again, and keep a copy this time!
    Edit:
Forget the above. I've just been told by Three that any existinbg credit WILL be used at the new rate from 16/2/21. Dud advice the first time round!

  • Just discovered Three implemented this early (it's not supposed to happen until 16 Feb 2021). I decided to donate the bulk of my remaining credit to charity by SMS and expected to be charged my donation plus two standard rate texts (that should be 2p each on 321). Instead, I was charged my donation plus 20p, so 10p a text.  My wife did exactly the same and was also charged 10p a text, so I doubt we're alone.
  • Navilite,on the three data sim, which uses 321 rates, its still 2p a text, just tried it. Il let people know if it changes after the 16th feb

Have a look at 1pmobile (uses EE network)...

1p Mobile: everything you need to know (uswitch.com)
Don't bother looking at uswitch for correct information, the information on 1pmobile was incorrect at the time the article was written and I informed them of the errors on two occasions. The article was supposedly updated in 2019 but they still left all the incorrect information there.

Texts to SMS shortcodes (81234 sort of numbers) are excluded from the 2p a text rates on the old tariff anyway.

The price guide doesn't state what they should cost, just that it varies "SMS Short codes are classed as a Premium Rate Service. The cost varies, depending on the promoter’s terms and conditions, which should always be checked to find out the exact cost, as this will vary with the promoter and service."

No idea why you wouldn't just spend down the credit at the new rates instead of giving it away, makes no sense to me.
