I was just reading through your post rose kitten and loved the pic I am knackered after a night shift and could just see my self snoozing on it lol. It looks like the more cushions you have on it the merrier. I had an idea when I saw it, a friend of mine makes cushion covers out of old denimns she uses her sewing machine to make them and she also has a handy pocket for the remote which she hides from her hubby lol. She has also got some of the £3 jeans that asda sell and made curtains for her little girls room and matching cushion covers and as denimn is so hard wearing she has had them for ages.

I have a few denim cushions on my settee
and denim pieces on the arms, only there
because grown ups sit with their mugs
balanced on the arms and if they spill any
I can just whip them off and put them in the
wash.We dont have a cat now but my mums cat
used to lay along the back and sink her claws in
so I put a piece along the back to protect the
cover.I do like denim as a furnishing fabric its
so hard wearing but looks nice too.Your friends
cushions & curtains sound really nice.

I have three large 26 inch square cushions running
along the back and fancy making some new covers
for them in something light and Summery.

  • Mugs balanced on arms.... I wouldnt allow that rosekitten, your sofa does look really comfy. I love the rose cushion you made by the way, Ive been hand sewing a few cushions myself but Im not happy with them. My Mum has offered me her sewing machine so I may go cushion mad.

rosekitten- I thought you would be the person to ask.... Im looking for light peach/ flesh coloured calico. Ive googled it but cant find what Im looking for.. have you any ideas?

I've had a nosey on the Shabby Chic thread & it seems that a lot of their ideas cross with those on here:p

Anyhoo, whilst there I remembered a hankie bag that a friend made for me way back in the dark ages of school:o Mine is a heart shape with a circle 'hole', made in a white sateen material & edged with lemon lace. I had a go at describing it there, & see if I can do the same here. It occurred that if made in a larger size, it could be used for bras or sox, & the one I have would suit tights too. Apologies for lack of photos----no camera:o
    • Choose shape & cut two pieces of chosen fabric.
    • Choose shape for 'hole' & cut in centre of one piece. Finish off neatly with binding or small hem.
    • Cut 2 of the same shape as 'hole' but a larger, in either the same fabric or contrast. Sew these two pieces to make a 'flap' to cover the 'hole' & trim &/or pad lightly if desired.
    • Sew 'flap' by top edge only, a little above the 'hole'. This makes the 'hinge'.
    • Sew two large shapes together, adding trim of your choice. Add a little loop to hang if desired.
Hope you can understand my ramblings, but thought it might make a prezzie for a grandma or such, to make the 99p hankies look a bit more exciting:p
Guess you could make a 'masculine' version out of heavier fabric:rolleyes: or even a little cover for those tie hangers.

Re: the cushion covers----folk have made them from jumpers & things bought from charity shops, even boiling wool ones to shrink them. And I like the baby dresses made into peg bags too.....now I'm drooling! Better go before I fuse the keyboard:rotfl: :rotfl:

    Just come across this thread.

Rose, mumof2 and all the rest of you, your ideas are wonderful.

I personally wouldn't know where to start, but you have given me loads of ideas.

I just love the muffin 'cake' and choc log rolls.

Keep up the good work, I'll drop in on this thread again, if I can ever find you again

    Best wishes

oh what can you do when the grown ups
are as bad as the kids.

As for the fabric its a difficulat one
because I always think when its a
particular shade your after you really
need to see it in the shop before you buy.
John Lewis are good for fabrics and can
get pretty much anything when its an
    exact shade your after.
