I was determined to have a 'recycled' birthdays and christmas pressies this year and so far have done quite well with picking up other folks 'unwanteds'.
Having seen this thread I'm determing to have a go at the cakes with the flannel (found two cream flannels this morning in the bathroom cupboard still in the cellophane).
One baskets about full but the others all need extras added to bulk them out.
Still, early days yet. First birthday to crop up is in March and I've done hers - all except the wrapping and I've got some cream voile for that.

Seen these 'handmade paper' kits but I'm not quite daring enough to have a go at that plus don't know if I'd use enough of it to make it worthwhile.
I'll see how I get on when the rain stops and I can grab a piece from the craft shop. One sheet shouldn't cost a lot should it ? Hope not...........

I spotted a quality street box this morning still with a few chocs in and wondered if I could make a little box/case out of it as it tapers in towards the bottom but then saw a whole thats covered with cellophane at the bottom so crossed that off as a no-go. Intended covering it with brown paper and doing something with the cream flannels..........oh well..........back to the drawing booard.................lol

  • Why dont you open up the quality street carton and cut it straight across towards the bottom, the use this as a template???

    Its worth a go....

Im planning on using the handmade paper to make my sister a travel memories book in the style of East Of India gifts, Ive also seen some lovely invitations made up on Ebay with little enevelopes so want to have ago at that too.

    Thanks..................why didnt I think of that???? Brilliant idea !
Oh......I've tried rolling my flannels up as per piccys on here but they don't seem to 'fluff up' as much as those I've seen on here. Just tried it rolling too together to give double thickness but it doesn't seem to work:confused:
Maybe they were cheap flannels so should I buy some more ?

Oh, rain stopped so nipping out while I've got the chance not to get drenched......................back in a bit

  • I always use supersoft flannels for a fluffy effect. Primark do these for 50p each I think???

Good luck with your trip out.

Craft shop closed due to illness................just my luck -but open tomorrow it says so I got a bit wet for nothing as it started to rain again:mad:
Think we've got a Primark in Lincoln so what with flannels and retro sweets -our woolworths is small no no pick 'n mix at least it'll be worth the 20 mile trip, Meanwhile I can practise a bit with the flannells I've got,
Also found lurking in the bathroom cupboard three smallish bath scrunchies, two cream and one sort of coffee coloured..........maybe I can do something with them. I've got that many scrunchies I won't miss these......:j

    GEE thanks everyone.

the Gysophilia or as i call ith "baby,s breath" is real but it does last a good 2/3 weeks maybe even longer depending on how fresh it is when purchased.

It can be a bit fiddly to start with but just keep unrolling the socks til your happy with the roll. it does say to use floral wire, but i found it much easier using the small wooden bbq skewers. you cant see it anyway cos its covered in floral tape and they tend to stand in the vase much better.

another tip for good flowers depends on the baby socks themselves. once i realised this i visited mothercare, asda, tesco, next, primark, gap etc and opened the packs of socks to check they would roll ok. (bet all the security cameras were aimed on me with the security guards ready to pounce cos i must have looked like a shoplifter.LOL)
some are too thick, some have too loose an elastic top.
here is the link girls. my next project for another new baby due is the nappy cake.
