On the general safety and security of this provider, can we assume that it is an OK site to be using for savings. Opened an account about a week ago. Seemed fine at the start but have been trying to query a few things via on-line chat over the past couple of days and not getting any replies?
Yes, but they're a smaller outfit that'll have been overwhelmed by being named a table-topper by MSE and dealing with 100's of "complaints" like OP's here from those that didn't bother to read all the T&Cs before signing up!
  • I signed up to Chip + 1 through MSE  two days ago and the account has started working as I understood it would but they have now asked me to upload either my passport details or photo driving license, with all the identity fraud which goes on I'm wary of this especially as they've linked to my bank which surely should be enough to prove my identity?
  • The Chip App is very confusing and not all intuitive. Their response time is too slow, as well. Have only today been able to provide ID, 2 days after opening the account. Still not sure which account I should be paying in to, as both appear in the app. I have been assured, by Jacob, that no fee will be charged, but don't know if I am earning any reward. Unable to pay any money too.

    Hello MSE,
Before you continue to promote and support Chip Financial may I suggest that you read the relevant reviews on Trustpilot from people who followed the advice given by you in your last weekly email....
    ....
    Thought that you should know!
This is the MSE Forum, not MSE itself.

I understand you're confused by Chip (personally I gave up with it long before it became Chip+) but as others have pointed out you do need to read and understand the terms when you sign up.

And if you want to report problems to MSE don't use the forum - write to MSE itself.  Here on the forum we're just people like you - we're not MSE staff, we're just people chatting about money matters.

MSE contact details are on the main MSE site here:  https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/site-contacts/

  • I had £25 paid into my Chip+1 account Today as a prize for entering a competition where I just had to do a manual save above £50 into it :)

    This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."
  • Chip is now offering £5 bonus for people who sign up using Platinum Pass code. The deadline is 3 Feb 2021 12pm. I think they send emails with the code to all their clients. You can use mine if you want to: 74FF97AE
I opened mine in December and everything is good so far, no problems with ID verification or transferring the money.

Main website states "The Chip+1 account can hold up to £85,000. But we only pay the 1.25% bonus on the first £10,000."

On there is a link to full T&Cs which states

"What’s the bonus I’ll be getting? : Returns : You will receive 1.25% on funds up to £5,000 paid directly by Chip."
    Work that one out.

I used their app and have a reasonable sum in there. A little concerning that their site does not log you out after a period of inactivity,  When I open their app on my phone I have instant access, no need to log back in, even days later?
