I wonder if I could dive in at this point and join in? I've been a member of this site for a long, long time but I've only done the odd bit of lurking in the past couple of years. Is a potted history called for? This site changed my life massively. I left London with mountains of debt about 20 years ago (pretty much maxing out a new credit card every couple of years and then just paying off the minimums each month until all those payments were crippling me). I stumbled upon MSE and it made me realise how toxic my attitude to savings was. Things changed in the space of a few days.I did a massive review of my debts, spent the bare minimum, moved balances to 0% cards, took advantage of every possible offer I could, paid off as much as I could afford each month to the highest debts, adopted a "do I need this, or do I want it" attitude to everything. It's taken bloody years but I'm in a much better position now. Debts cleared, we bought a house and have made a significant dent in the mortgage, and we finally have rainy day savings...something neither myself or my wife ever had growing upBut there are a couple of things that I've struggled with for most of my life: Alcohol and weight. I've made several false starts over the years, but always resort back to form. I drink too much, I exercise too little, and I eat too much. I'm 6 foot four and just over 22 stone and for a guy my age that's not really a healthy combination. (Plus the money I'm spending on beer undoes a lot of the saving I do).I'd like to be a part of this. I want to make a serious dent in my weight and giving up (or severely reducing my intake) is key because after a few beers, all self control goes out of the window and I turn into pac-man.I'm going to have a few goodbye beers tonight and then face the horrors of the scales tomorrow, and then get focussed. Thanks for having me, and I hope everyone is doing well.9

Welcome to the thread @Grey_Pilgrim - it is such a friendly and supportive place to be if you are trying either to give up completely or (like me) to cut down on alcohol.7

@maman I think low alcohol days are a win where previously wouldn't be the case. Tbh in some ways I count days I've enjoyed a couple of drinks, had a nice evening but happy to not bother he next day as a bigger win than abstinence.15/26 please cathybird, thank you.8 -
Oh and welcome Grey_Pilgrim and good luck.7

Welcome @Grey_Pilgrim, or should that be welcome back. 🤔 You've done amazingly well with clearing your debts and house purchase. IIRC you've managed to cut down and shift lard before. I'm sure you can do it!👍6

Morning all, early start as for today, new electricity cables etc for the road so I might not have any power for a day. Apart from my animal magnetism, obviously. Grr.
But on topic (pass a hazel nut) 17/29 and 300 AFDs in 2022, plus or minus.
Pip pip!Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!6
