Sorry to hear that WBF. Been there and done that.
The fact you are awake early hours isn’t good.
    Be gentle on yourself.
If you’re in the mood the AF drinks I’ve been trying have helped me. Feels like I’m getting that end of day treat.
Live for the moment and plan for the future

@alt80 hope you have a good week away and can manage to park the feelings of guilt. Much better for your son if you are fully present rather than half thinking of work too. Now I'm feeling guilty as I'm sure I sometimes start thinking about work when away!

Sorry to read things are tough WBF  just keep going and as  CuppaTea said be gentle to yourself.

I was interested to read AF gins are ok - might try that as the idea of a  drink at the end of a day is good but I haven't yet found an enjoyable AF one, although Kombucha is ok too. I have thrown away so many bottles of AF wine that were just undrinkable.

Achieved my AF day on Thursday so 7/15 please - looking forward to my twirly daisy and aiming for more too.

Despite your previous feelings about holidays alt I hope you and your family enjoy this time together and you have some rest and recuperation. Best wishes. X

W_B_F I'm sorry things are tough. If they are things that can/will change I hope that happens very soon. If not then "the Serenity to accept". Thinking of you. X

Declaring late for yesterday and early for today, 13/25 please cathybird. Thank you. X

Yesterday I attended my Goddaughter's wedding and had previously pencilled it in as a planned drinking day. However, it was an AF occasion. GD's now husband is a recovering alcoholic dry for 10 years and she rarely drinks. Neither usually mind other people drinking around them but as it was their special day they arranged things as they wished. They offered a large selection of AF drinks (and as a late addition ice lollies😃). It was lovely and all the guests (apart from one young man with a hip flask 😠) were absolutely fine with it.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your Mum and the health problems with your Dad @Wanna_Bee_Free - it must be very tough on you.

As others have said - be gentle to yourself - you need to take care of you as well as others around you.

Sending you a virtual hug x

Hi all, some people's problems make our own look insignificant. I was going to have a moan about my Saturday but is seems so trivial now. But I will anyway.

First up, it's DDD - yes, Dashing Dog Day!  14/30, 487 AFDs in a row at home (I exclude Menorca - and even that was far from "overdoing it"!). I'm at a festival this week-end but won't drink there either, I really want to reach 500.

Right - now my Saturday. Went to football, got there 20 minutes after kick-off and the gates were locked.  Got in just before half time (for free!) so not that disastrous, didn't miss a goal anyway.
Got dragged off to a party (Urgh!) - loads of drunk people shouting at soul-funk  music - one of my pet hates. "We Are Fami-Lee". Yes that might be so but I'm not having fun.
Went to see a friend's band after that. Now - I know the drummer, she plays in my regular band and she's bloomin' gorgeous. Anyway the plan was to see maybe the second set and help her load the drums into the car. I get to the pub to find an audience of - five. It expanded to eight at one point, I mean - normally the band's partners and mates come along - er - no. End of first song - one person clapped. One. They were dreadful! I couldn't stand it, I left before the end - the singer can't, the sound was poor (couldn't understand the singer even when he was talking), they had 2 guitars but I could only hear one and he was  out of tune; the solos were off key at times, the bass player (notorious for being bad) was that, they had no stage presence whatsoever. Now I have a dilemma. Suppose she asks what I thought? Do I lie my bits off with some creativity? U can't say I didn't go in case one of them spotted me...
Oh and my mobile has died in spectacular fashion. It looks like a Pink Floyd light show.
Apart from that, a good day. Hope I've made someone smile at least!
Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!

Wanna_Bee_Free so sorry to hear the very sad news about your Mum. It must have been such a shock to happen so quickly after hearing the terminal diagnosis. I hope your Dad find the strength to cope. Please be kind to yourself and take care. Thinking of you.

@Wanna_Bee_Free so sorry to hear you've been through such an awful time - my own mother died (decades ago now) very quickly after a cancer diagnosis, weeks not days but I still remember the shock, it was horrible, so my heart goes out to you. So hard for your dad too - but I hope he will get well again? Agreed with the others, take care of yourself xxx
