    Hello
ive been away on a little holiday to the seaside which was blissful but boozy. 5/18 at the moment, undecided whether I will drink today, I'm in a restaurant with a fizzy water at the moment but fancy a glass of wine

Yes I have experienced this Season_of_Mist. I too had a couple of drinks last Saturday for the first time since NYE and felt heavy headed and 'unsettled' the next day. When we are drinking regularly our bodies became desensitised  but after a period of not drinking I suppose it reacts as if to something toxic when we do have a drink😬. Sometimes it's worth it, often not so although I definitely don't intend to give up drinking I am trying to be selective.

I am 9/21 for yesterday please cathbird. Thank you. X

Well done those of you who resisted temptation yesterday. I remember that, in the early days of the thread, going to bed early was one of the many distractions that people used to stay AF.  Personally I'd have to go to bed at 6 p.m. for that to help me! 🤣 Once I get past that  and have my dinner I'm fine. The motivation of 'wasting' an AF day by starting late seems to help. 🤔

I don't feel unwell at all after drinking (unless I've had a concoction of different drinks) SoM. What I did find was that my tolerance levels have dropped a bit so I often stop mid-evening on drinking days and have a cup of tea.

    8/10 AFDs please Cathy

Really struggled yesterday - felt very down and despondent - combination of lockdown blues and worrying about the future and finding another job. Ended up giving in to temptation and had a couple of drinks. Will be AF today so still on 6/10 ☹️

My understanding is that an enzyme, Gamma GT, is produced by the body to eliminate alcohol. If someone drinks a lot for a long time, this enzyme is produced in greater quantity to fight the toxin. If that person then goes 'cold turkey', the production slows down and the level in the body reduces. So I assume that if that person drinks again, the effect will be greater.
As I said, that's my understanding so don't take it as gospel!

Should be “Gamma G&T” really. That’s interesting, might have to read about that. Thanks.

I fully accept that if I were to have a lot to drink, a proper session, then I’d expect to feel really rough the next day. But this business of occasionally having just a couple of drinks - literally just two or three - and then feeling washed-out, lethargic, faintly nauseous, all through the following day is a new one on me I have to say. I wonder if it becomes less easy to produce that enzyme with age? If that’s the way it is going to be from now on, it hardly seems worth having those couple of drinks at all.

Sukeyboo, sorry to hear that things are tough at the moment. These really are very trying times. You are still doing good on the AF front though, 6/10 so far is still more than halfway there and we are only at 11 February. How is your lovely cat Pepper?

@sukeyboo you walk your cat?? I’m not ‘enjoying’ lockdown as such but really thankful can’t go anywhere and no temptations/ people wanting to meet up or ready excuse for those that do haha.

alt80 - we don’t really walk him - we go for a walk and he just follows - luckily it is just fields and woodland next to our house so he is very safe 😻
