I have a propagator and loads of seeds grew but they seem to be dying off now.
Anyone else have this issue?
My peppers sown 9/3 have been germinating over the last couple of days, so took 2 weeks (Nothing from the seeds sown mid Feb) Kept indoors on a sunny windowsill.
I've just potted on my aubergines into their first individual pots and some of the tomatoes will be done soon as their first true leaves are just starting to show. I'll keep them indoors as long as possible, i think we only have snails munching in our greenhouse but it's amazing how much damage they can cause and I have not grown many 'spare' plants.
another one here who had to look up celtuce to see what it was!

@JasperAlex - I have a bug zapper in my kitchen anyway - don't buy one just to help with germination - but it does stay on 24x7 so it applies that blue light and gentle bottom warmth which does seem to help with chillies and tomatoes (and keeps them away from the mystery shoot-muncher)Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Thanks for the advice on legginess! I was so excited about the first true leaves on my tomatoes, forgot about all the other things need to look out for! Have now removed the excess water from the trays. Moved the maris piper potatoes indoors, not sure they liked the shed, hardly any chitting done.
Got a grow bag tray yesterday, works a treat for all the small pots now in the craft room on the table, can use afterwards for whatever wil grow at home.
So eager to start more seeds, but since our last frost date last year was 10thMay, will wait a bit.
One of the neighbours advised i stick herb pots or a raised bed with shallow rooted veg on top of the weedsuppressing fabric. I got a nice small pallet collar should be perfect for bag of shallots i've been trying to find space for.
In the meantime i have been watching videos on how to remove seedlings (aubergine in this case) from seed trays. Have never planted in trays before, so fingers crossed.
As a btw: my local P0undStr3tch3r is doing growbag trays, £4.99, 9cm round pots (stack of 20) £1.49, 9cm square pots (stack of 12) £1.49. For anyone needing to repot successful seedlingsIt's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.3 -
Had a more productive day today, planted my onion sets out, got my first two rows of carrots in, two rows of spinach, and a row each of mixed salad leaves, little gem lettuce and romaine lettuce. Plenty of space to add more rows over the coming weeks/months for continuous crops and it finally feels like things are happening. I still want to get more seeds started indoors but just don't have space for them, I really need a greenhouse.0

Getting ready to sow any aubergines and padron peppers, along with a few flowers this afternoon, but I’m running out of windowsill space.I have so nasturtiums that are getting pretty big (definitely sowed them too early). They’re in 7cm pots and are getting quite tall/leggy. Do you think they’ll be alright if I move them to my unheated zippy greenhouse? If it slows them down, that’ll be a plus, but don’t want to kill them off. Any thoughts?2

I moved some sunflowers, leeks and lavender plug plants from dining table to allotment greenhouse yesterday without checking the weather forecast. You'd think Id know by now after all these years. My doom and gloom OH kept saying: "Theres a frost tonight, they wont survive" I took my chances and I have nipped today and checked. They are fine!! I seem to have an infestation of ants though in one of the greenhouse beds so I moved everything to my smaller greenhouse and doused with ant powder. I dont like killing anything if I can help it but I cant have them where my toms are going to go!
Got my first earlies in and sat for a while deciding where Im going to put what. Oooh also planted a pear tree last week that my son bought me for mothers day. Have got white onion sets in and need to plant red ones. I read they can do better if planted a bit later so thats a job for next week. OH off for a few days next week so we are going to give the greenhouses a good clean with Jeyes. Cant ever remember cleaning them before so must need it.
Have bought some ginger to attempt for the first time if anyone has any advice?
Picked first rhubarb of the year whilst down there and have just made a crumble. Also picked a few leeks and they are bubbling away just now to make leek, potato and onion soup. Yum Yum!!Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £602 -
@Caitykinss stick them in the zippy, if you've got bubble wrap or something you can keep the pots warm.
@Kantankrus_Mare has it sprouted? Apparently it's quite easy to grow.
I've done weeding, planted some more spuds and looked to see what's sprouting; so far cabbage, cauliflower and radishes. Strawberry plants have settled into the tub and growing nicely.
Think I messed up my tomato seeds, so I've got a new lot on the go.
For some strange reason I'm getting impatient and want to get pea and bean family seeds on the go.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.2 -
@MovingForwards I'm itching to start my peas and beans too, I might get a few started indoors tomorrow but direct sow more in a few weeks, I'm definitely going to start some more peppers too, there's no signs of life at all with the ones I already have, I dug around in one of the cells and there's nothing.2

@Fosterdog I've just ordered some as I've only got a handful from what I grew last year, it's satisfied the craving to do something.
Good luck with your peppers.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
