Here we go, brand new year and brand new goals!
Ideas. Got a few DIY jobs I can get on with this month.
Thriftiness is a good thing. I've no plans for any purchases in the sales, and just started using the KonMarie method to go through my stuff so I'll carry that on throughout Jan.
Time with those you love (you can’t do this once they’re gone. Make the most of them now). Also, tread lightly on our planet – get out there and enjoy fresh air every day. Cant physically see my family but am making an effort to stay in touch by phone. I enjoy going out for walks even in the cold, rain and mud! Will also make the most of my weekly horse ride.
Extras. You need to incorporate 3 proper exercise sessions a week. I have a long-term back issue but will do my best. I will include my horse riding and if (big IF) gyms reopen I'll start swimming again. I do enjoy working out at home so will make an effort to make time for it.
Re-visit your budgets for the month. Going for 20 NSD's.
Be yourself. I want to carry on doing the small things that make me happy, like reading, pampering in the bath.
Unburden yourself. I've decided to look into self-funding some medical treatment for my back as I've been in chronic pain for such a long time. I'd prefer not to go down this route but I'm starting to realise that my health and quality of life is much more important than money.
Gratitude. Need to practice more of this!

Happy New Year, Turtles. 2021. Time to move on and start afresh.
Bills that are not paid by direct debit or standing order were all paid yesterday. I have a goal for savings this year, both personal and for Himself and I, and I have a plan for achieving it.
I am going to learn to bake. Since I've not ever made so much as a fairy cake I may have to call on some Turtle expertise. I am starting to write my memories of my childhood and all my relatives now long gone but that's a secret between us. I'm not telling anyone else yet. Must get started on gardening on my very little porch. It will be blooming with gorgeous flowers this year. The house could do with decorating but I need a professional to that (Himself can't be trusted with a paintbrush) but I'm going to leave that for now. Less people who have to come into the house the better - essential repairs only for the time being.
It's been difficult seeing anyone at all recently but I have been keeping in touch by email, etc. I really have to get into a habit of doing this regularly and I love the idea of starting to write letters again. Isn't it lovely when you get a proper letter, not just junk mail or bills, through the letterbox.
Oh, Apple. I hate exercise. I will try really, really hard to get out and walk. Need to loose weight (I say this every year), look after myself and try to be calm. Eat healthily. Chocolate and alcohol are banned from today.
Time to be positive. Look for the good in things and help others.
So I'm going to finish my coffee, dance my way to the shower and put on something nice instead of slobbing around in my jammies.
Have a good and positive day everyone.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.7 -
Happy New Year!
Janus - I can't believe how quickly the last year has flown. Whilst a lot of 2020 was filled with fear and uncertainty, we got through it. We didn't decrease our debt as we had planned, but we got through without increasing it. We have built an emergency fund, and we have made a small dent in the mortgage. I'm not going to make big plans and resolutions for 2021 because I think we still have a fair bit of uncertainty ahead. But, I am going to spend some time tidying up my budgeting spreadsheet and setting some simple plans and targets in my journal.
Ideas - I enjoy being creative, but don't usually find enough time for it. I'm thinking if I write down a list of projects, it might help me focus and find the time to get them done. Firstly, I want to brighten up our bedroom by upcycling some furniture, displaying some ornaments, and having a general tidy up. I also like the idea of being creative with clothes. I recently found a dress that's been sitting in my wardrobe as it's too tight can be comfortably worn unbuttoned over a nice lacey vest. I need to try out some more combinations. I'm also starting to save ideas for creative gifts for birthdays this year.
Thriftiness - I most definitely don't love everything we own. I am going to make an effort to declutter, sell what we can, and donate/bin as appropriate. I usually love the January sales for buying Christmas crackers, wrapping paper, and gifts for next Christmas. This year, I'm seriously questioning if I want to this. If I see something at a reduced price, that will definitely be used and appreciated, during my usual grocery shop then I'll consider it, but I'd rather put money aside for next Christmas than buy random unthoughtful gifts now just because they're in the sale.
Time - we live in a beautiful part of the world and I'd like to make time to get out of the house and into the countryside with the children. There must be hundreds of walking paths nearby that we haven't explored.
Extras - I had a really good routine set up for doing regular yoga sessions. Then we rearranged the lounge furniture and there's not enough space for my yoga mat with moving things out of the way. So I stopped bothering. I really need to put the effort in and commit to these sessions again.
Revisit - I have my basic monthly budget set up. I need to look at the big annual expenses for this year (insurances etc) and make sure we're putting enough aside to cover them. Aiming for 15 NSDs.
Be yourself - I plan to drink more water and consume less sugar. I have a generous supply of lotions and potions thanks to birthday and Christmas gifts, so I'm going to put time aside to pamper myself every now and again. I'm also going to wear one of my favourite perfumes every day. What good is saving it for best when we can't go anywhere?
Unburden yourself - I've been finding my job quite stressful lately. I love my role, but we've been given new systems and processes that I don't fully understand and it's stopping me doing my job. I'm taking comfort from the fact that every one of the team is feeling the same way. I can't change it, so I just have to get on with it to the best of my ability, ask for help, and leave my worries at work.
Gratitude - today I am grateful for making it through 2020 in one piece, having 3 beautiful children, and my husband getting up with DC3 so I can have a lie in

Good Morning Lovely 2021 Turtle Friends!!Well, it all feels different, but strangely the same. As it is a bank holiday, no bills have gone out, no movement on the mortgage balance, so it all looks very nice in Banky World until the money goes out, but it is an illusion. Like many things.Food in the house, heat in the radiators, we are all healthy, will have a think about the first post and make a cunning plan for the rest of the month.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
