Pip I love the jumper and the colour. You have the same colouring as my sister and I have been planning to make her something for either her birthday in November or Christmas but have been dithering about the colour, you have settled it for me.
On the topic of water my niece, her dh and my nephew are currently in Bequia, the closest island to St Vincent in the Grenadines and due to the volcano erupting on St Vincent they spent a lot of time yesterday filling various containers with water. Today they are waiting for the ash to stop falling so they can go outside and start clearing it. Honestly there we all were thinking they were safe from covid and along comes a volcano. Take care everyone6 -

Fingers crossed for your niece and her family. You must be very worried. The volcanic eruption on St Vincent is one of those news items that got buried on Friday/Saturday by the news of the Duke’s death. I saw a headline on the BBC News app yesterday evening, about half way down the page, something about “The air stinks of sulphur...”. Because it immediately made me think of New Zealand I read it then and there.

Well, it's taken me a while to catch up; 87 posts to read, mark & inwardly digest! And the only excuse I have is that I was watching the new little Icelandic volcano, which has been putting on a pretty show of fireworks & isn't threatening anyone, except those idiotic candidates for the Darwin Awards who stray too close & don't take sensible precautions. Very much mindful of your niece, @Liverpool_Anne; La Soufrière is a very nasty beastie in comparison.
So sorry for your losses, @maddiemay & @Laura_Elsewhere; it's horrid to lose someone at the best of times, and this certainly isn't that.
All I have to confess to is a) not making anything, because my sewing room has disintegrated into utter chaos again as both DDs and their newly-returned brother have all decanted tons of stuff into there for donating, as soon as anywhere will accept donations, and b) I've invested in a lovely hand-knitted Kaffe Fassett jumper on Ebay, secondhand & professionally-knitted but never worn. All but one of my lovely vintage wool jumpers have passed the point beyond which they're no longer wearable, so are going to be cut up & made into a patchwork blanket - mostly they're felted to the point I won't really need to overlock the edges! - so whilst I'll trust to luck to replace most of them, I did want at least one I'd spent some time thinking about & that would "work" with most of my wardrobe, such as it is.Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6 -
Gosh, @thriftwizard, I was just thinking about you at around 2 o'clock this morning and thinking you hadn't popped in lately! Jolly glad it hasn't been anything awful...
And yes, I've been happily following the Icelandic volcanoes, Flo, Bob, Sif and Ulf and I think that's all for now, although one of them (Ulf) appeared only last week - Flo is Fast Lava Output, and Sif is Sudden Icelandic Fissure, Unexpected Lava Flow is Ulf, all names easier for us to pronounce than the real Icelandic locations, so the kindly Icelandic people come up with them! A geology friend invited me into a marvellous FB group which has lots of amazing photos, many by people living nearby.2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Thank you, @Laura_Elsewhere, I've joined! Nice to know I'm not alone; my family think it's daft to - just watch - but it's a whole new volcano being born, and rather an unusual one. Yes, I probably should be trying to make some sense of my sewing room, working out where I can deposit around 8 stuffed bin-bags of twenty-something clothing, not to mention the boxes of books, and reducing my vast stash of fabric into useful things, but I kind of need a mental run-up at it...

PipneyJane said:@Cherryfudge the wool is from Doulton Border Leicester in their “Roseberry Topping” colourway. Border Leicester is a rare breed and I’m a bit of a convert. If I have any coupons left at the end of this year, I’ve promised myself that I’ll buy some more. It’s not the softest yarn to knit with but it does soften up beautifully after washing and is very warm. There were absolutely no prickles. I used three 100g skeins with not much left over.
I haven't advanced to rare breed wools (yet) though I found myself swooning over hanks of angora/bamboo somewhere recently. Before I indulge, however, I really MUST use up some of the stash...I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

PollyWollyDoodle said:...my mum lived in London throughout the Blitz. She said you would often see just the wall of a house left standing, with fireplace, wallpaper etc and sometimes a bath dangling incongruously in mid-air. She said she had a real dread of being caught in the bath in this way, until my pragmatic aunt pointed out that any occupant of the bath would certainly not still be in it!
She lived in London during the war and had a number of close calls (working in central London made it more likely) but there were some funny stories too. In one, the house of a neighbour, a strict Methodist, was bombed. People began to search the wreckage but he was nowhere to be seen until an upturned bathtub shifted and a cautious voice spoke from beneath it, asking in worried tones whether any ladies were present?!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Too good not to share... the 't' key on my laptop is sticking, hence my typoing is even worse than usual, but a real classic this morning when I told someone online:
On my walk, I even saw a wild rabbi!

A wild rabbi - now there's a thought to conjure with!
In an idle moment yesterday I picked up my spinning wheel... have now decided I MUST have some superwash merino & make something for the baby, much like I made for my niece's little fellow - https://www.ravelry.com/projects/thriftwizard/kimono-wrap-revisited-2 - so I do now have something specific to work towards. Phew - I felt all at sea, not making anything!Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6
