Sorry for your loss.I volunteer in a charity shop & we would probably rag them rather than turn someone away. Most charity shops should take them for rag ( appreciate they are too good for that). If you can’t remove the labels, can you scrub the name out with a marker & donate to a homeless charity?Lurking in a galaxy far far away...6

@Pollycat
So sorry to hear of your sad loss. Do you have a Freecycle or Freegle group in your area, (not sure what they call themselves these days). People often both request and offer clothing items in my area so I just wondered if you might be able to offload some items that way? Also we have a few people who collect up clothing from Freecycle/Freegle members in bulk for various disadvantaged groups. Warm coats, waterproofs and warm sweaters seem to be in high demand just now.6 -
@ Brie, DFV, goldfinches, Dark Star & Miro
Thanks for your kind words and suggestions.
The clothes are marked with indelible marker.
We've put some stuff for rags but these were her best clothes.
I think I might ask in various charity shops as I go about my business.
Miro - great suggestion about Freecyle.7 -
Can you go over the name with the indelible marker so it is blocked out ?8

It may hurt less to post them to a local-hospice shop in Galashiels, so they have a future but unlikely ever in your line of sight. I'll presume the care instructions are still legible? Let some lucky souls, counties away, rehome them happily?

Sorry for your loss Pollycat, wish I had some suggestions but if you have a local group on Nextdoor or Facebook someone may be able to help?
I went for a mooch in the village charity shop today and got:- A Jack Wills gilet for me - £3 - exactly like this - won't fit me until I pop out baby (can alllllmost get it around bump but not quite) but given they're currently on sale for £65 down from £90 I think that's a bargain and a half! I'm really excited as I was contemplating a gilet for working from home earlier this year. This one looks hardly worn so will hopefully do for a few years when it's not cold enough for a full on coat but not warm either (which is very often in Northern Ireland)
- One of these no spill toddler cups, for 50p - already have one for tot, but only one, so this will alleviate some pressure when the other is MIA and also provide a spare for baby no 3 next year!
- A cosy well lined hat with ear flaps for the tot who desperately needs one, for £1 - similar online for £6
Total spend: £4.50, RRP: £77.50!!10 -
I'm sorry for your loss pollycat. I'm working through my late uncles clothes at the moment, it's hard to let go of some of the clothes he had. Could you try Facebook marketplace?
Popped into the charity shop near work the other day and a poor woman realised that someone had stolen from her and started having a panic attack. Can't believe that someone would steal from a 80 something year old woman using a walker. Left the shop to give her privacy but feel guilty that I didn't just buy the thing she wanted for her.
Today I got a latch for the door, shoe inserts and a bug screen all clearance for 50p each, plus let them have the change.7 -
I had the most ridiculously successful afternoon on the chazzer trail yesterday:
#1) An oversized ceramic travel mug for £1 and a good window shopping experience
#2) 2 books @50p each plus a deliciously scented 16oz rose & peony candle for £1
#3) A belt for £1
#4) A pair of decorative door knobs for 50p, and a replacement SS dimmer switch for 50p
back to #1) for the crowning glory: 6 Italian antique brass and cushioned sturdy dining chairs that match my decor beautifully, for £50!! That's just £8.33 a piece and I am so pleased with them. Just a pity I can't find a good image online to share. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.9 -
Hereford today!
I haven’t owned a coat for a couple of years, but in the washing machine now is a teal blue Regetta coat with a fleecy lined hood! £10 as new.
Also bought a brand new Seasalt top. £10.
