planning a quick trip out later if I can get away from the "home office" (aka desk under the stairs) (fyi - the "desk" is actually what I'd call an invalid's table - the sort of narrow depth shelf on wheels that you can slide over an oldie sitting in their comfy chair watching tv. OH found it as new at a Prama shop for £50, new online at £127)
Anyhoo if I can get out to the Margaret Green shop (where I got the Poole pottery teapot etc) I can check for suitable items to protect our wood furniture in the bedroom from the ravages of leaky toiletry containers.
I shall also be dropping off a big bag of unwanteds - shirts mostly - some practically new. I had bought a load from Land's End when I was feeling particularly fat and discovered I could have bought a smaller size. I've lost nearly 2 stone since then so expect they will look even worse on me now. Also - for some reason a number of people gave me socks for Christmas the last couple of years which I know I will never wear - tight topped ankle socks guaranteed to strangle chunky legs. So if anyone ends up near Kinson and fancy some XXX tops or socks with robins on them you know where to look!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. Got there and back mostly intact. The MG shop had a cut glass cake plate on feet that would have worked to protect the wood surface from leaky bottles but I didn't think I could live with it. Also the brand new turkey platter (despite us needing one) for £2. And a lovely large selection of old china - but with no makers mark so likely just something from a market. Not something we need or have space for. Left them with the bag of tops etc and the bubble wrap from my last purchase there.
Toddled off to the vets to pick up what's left of the cat (sniff sniff) and then off to 2 other shops. Staffie rescue had nothing though I was tempted by a cloth shopper bag "who ever says money can't buy happiness never paid a pet adoption fee". And I nearly made it through Age Concern when I spotted a jute wine bottle bag "keep calm and have fun" which will be handy for someone. They also had bird food so got a couple of bags. Total £2.99 spent.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Nice little find in the St Gemma's Hospice shop...a Monsoon shorty cardigan. red with glorious big red flower buttons, BNWT and originally priced at £35...mine for 99p. Plan to wear it with a plain black sleeveless shift dress, thick black tights and me black bovver boots. Also picked up an M & S t-shirt in camel with a scoop neck and sleeves to just above the elbow. I must have dozens of this particular style, probably all the colours that M & S made them in but I cannot resist buying more at 99p cos I love them so much!7

Wrangled a day off and spent it productively having gone to the market and making my OH buy me breakfast. And after that I wandered off by myself to Ferndown where I knew there were a number of charity shops. Still looking for toppers for our dressers and bedside tables....will find something eventually. Meanwhile I came away with 2 silk scarves - one is a stiff thai silk in pinks and reds and the other a loose weave stripey one in greens, purple and turquoise. A whacking £4.50 well spent.

I bought a fabulous Phase Eight summer dress from local hospice for £6.00.
It's a mix of viscose and ramie. I thought ramie was cotton but it isn't.Fortunately, there are more and more eco-friendly fabrics revolutionizing the fashion industry. Ramie is one of them.
Ramie fabric is very strong and durable, light and breathable like cotton and linen. It is not very flexible or elastic. It is made of natural fibers from the Ramie plant.
It is a very eco-friendly and sustainable fabric, great for the eco-conscious shopper. Ramie is originated from China, India, and Indonesia and has been used thousands of years, making it one of the oldest fiber crops.
The Ramie plant is mainly used for fabric production. Farmers have been using their fiber to weave clothing.A highly durable, lightweight, natural fabric, Ramie commonly known as China Grass is one of the strongest natural fibres, pure white in colour with a silky lustre. Comfortable to wear, Ramie fabric is low in elasticity and highly absorbent which makes it ideal for warmer temperatures.
Ramie Fabric is naturally stain resistant, withstands high water temperature, does not shrink and has strong dyeing capabilities which makes it ideal for clothes and garments.
Fabric is made from the nettle family.
It has a cream background and shades of oatmeal, brown and grey with a pattern that looks like misty mountains.
It has large stones sewn on round the front of the neckline. Could be dressy or Saturday afternoon casual.
OH (never one to pull punches) says it's like a hideous tent.
I'm currently looking at putting some darts in front and back because I love it so much.

@Pollycat For years I was convinced 'ramie' was an alternative name for linen....I only recently bothered to look it up and found it wasn't!. I used to love Phase Eight dresses....still do but I now find their sizing a bit erratic, (a right pain when you could not try on, still can't in most of the charity shops around here). Also, most of their dresses now seem to be too short for me. I must have 3 or 4 of their dresses with that tell tale 'let down' line around the hem which I have desperately tried to press out. I somehow think you will not have that problem Pollycat!. Good luck with the alterations6
