Thanks maman. My son is a nurse and was working on a ward with covid patients. I think people in hospitals often seem to get it quite badly, I believe it can be because they get alot of the virus when they get infected. I just feel annoyed with my neighbours who all made a big deal about clapping for the NHS but can't follow the rules at Christmas. My son doesn't live local so I know it isn't their fault but just upset me worrying about him and looking out of the window and seeing all the visitors cars.
I wish I could go and see him, it is too far to do in a day but I suppose even if he was local I couldn't see him. It is hard.
I hope your brother is doing OK. Soon we will all get the vaccine and life will start to improve, well I hope so.
Happy New Year to everyone in case I don't get on tomorrow.8 -
chanie you must be a hangbag connoisseur and I'm a philistine. My favourite hangbag cost £5 in a closing down sale, I loved it so much DH went mad and bought me a spare. We are cheapskates. What with confessiing to Maman that I wear odd socks and now my handbag revelations I will probably get kicked off the thread.
I have made an effort over Christmas, had my hair done (colour and cut) on the 22nd and made sure I had something nice on everyday so maybe I'm not a completely lost cause.6 -
purple I’m in no way a handbag connoisseur, but I do like bags. Things were tight for us when the children were young (childcare costs). They are now both in school, so I feel the time is right to treat myself. The bag I’m eyeing up is way more than I have never spent on anything in my life and I’ve still got quite a bit of saving to do.Buy what you love, whether it’s £1 or £1000. I have cheap things I love just as much as anything expensive, so I’m not a brand snob.
The odd stocks are a no-no from me, but I don’t think badly of anyone who does. My SIL rarely wears matching socks. You sound like you are found really well on the fabbing front.6 -
just catching up on here. Had a problem with my computer mouse, my Daughter sorted it ( I am useless) lots of posts to read, nice to see some new faces. We have gone in tier 4, not surprising really. Back to school Monday but will be very few in the first week. I will be glad to see the back end of this year. I am going to miss my swimming now we are in tier 4. The gyms been closed a lot. However, I worked out ( I write i down)! 2100 lengths in 2020!

I am facing a highly restrictive lockdown over the next few weeks. I imagine that the lockdown will last a bit longer.
People viewed Christmas as their highlight and goal to get through last year. The public felt that they deserved a normal Christmas; but alas times are not normal and it is cruel to say a lot of people were not able to manage without the "normality" of Christmas. There is so much tradition associated with Christmas that it makes people a bit irrational. Personally, I prefer having the dullest Christmas and trying to keep people safe.
Purplepixie- I am lucky to even find a sock never mind matching socks. I used to buy loads the same colour so some would inadvertently match. I tend to wear more fleecy tights in the winter or even opaque tights with fleecy leggings over for more heat (without stretching shoes).
Ladies- My hands are very dry and the cold is not helping any good tips? I am washing them a lot and given the numbers will be doing so more.

SFT, try some almond or mild olive oil on your hands at night, and look for some antibacterial handcream to apply after handwashing.
I work in a hospital & we were all given comfort packs containing hand cream back in May, and yesterday our entry-point volunteers were handing out tubes of Carex moisturising antibac to all visitors, patients & staff along with the usual face masks.

Good Morning lovely ladies.Wrote a long post last night but then deleted this Mornjng. Decided it was too long, boring and a bit downbeat😂.Anyway just to wish you all the best for 2021.🥂 I guess it will be a quiet NYE for most of us. But here's hoping for better times ahead for everyone.7

chanie I think if the handbag makes you feel good it is worth it, I don't think it is that the handbag makes you look good but the feeling it gives you will make you look good. I'm not sure if that makes sense but its NYE so who needs sense?
I understand about the money and children thing, I think my issue is that there is a 20 year gap between my youngest and eldest so if you include school that is 38 years with dependent children plus an extra 4 years for uni so after 42 years of them being the priority it is hard to put me first. Being a carer doesn't help either. I think I need to say in 2021 I am going to have my turn, not sure what that will mean exactly but it is a plan isn't it. I have started I think. I was so fed up of my hair in the first lockdown, we went into lockdown with me being overdue for a cut so by the end of lockdown I was more like Wurzel Gummidge than anyone else. So I have started having regular cut and colours, I find it hard as it seems extravagant to spend nearly £100 on me every six weeks but my hair looking good makes such a difference, like the handbag it isn't just that the hair looks good but it changes my feeling about me. So when things are more normal I think a shopping trip is in order. I'd like a new coat as a start.
I also want a new bathroom, last February I had picked out the suite/tiles etc and was arranging quotes. Well we know what happened next and I didn't feel I could have workmen in the house. Another resolution for 2021 is a new bathroom as it lets the house down and I feel ashamed of it as even if I blitz it it doesn't look OK.
SFT I was given a Body Shop set for Christmas, it hand hemp hand cream and foot cream and it has really suited me. I am going to get some more. I hope you find something that helps, our hands have taken such a bashing this year.
Happy New Year everyone.8 -
Happy New Year to all. Today we are having a boiled and then roast gammon (Nigella's recipe boiled in coke). We will have that about 3 ish. Later on tonight we will have a little buffet while we wait for mid night. I am looking forward to it as it will be the first time in 7 years that DS has spent New Year with us! Well, he is being forced to do so now, but I'm looking on the bright side.
.
This morning DS and I made a triple layer sponge cake with different colours and will eat that later. It's been nice spending lock down time with him (he is 25). He was trapped in London during the first lock down, so I am making the most of his being here. I think he will be heading back to London next week as he is moving house.Debt free and Keeping on Track4 -
Chanie, I have a large Kate Spade Wellesley bag in Emperor Blue (a huge Ebay bargain at 25% cost BNWT) which I now use on the 1 day a week I go into the office, as it can swallow my laptop, cable & notebooks 😁.
I also have 2 DKNY bags, one is everday size black pebbled leather & another slightly smaller in a neutral leather. Both were sale bargains, £375 from Selfridges & £85 from TKMaxx.
All my bags get a regular dose of Nivea to nourish them, including my mum's Italian leather bag my dad brought her from Florence 45 years ago.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
