Ok sink, sink unit, taps and waste purchased. Toilet looked at and purchased. Toilet roll holder and towel ring purchased. I just need to decide on the splashback tiles and the flooring and that will be me done. I have my eye on a mirror and we have paint in the garage ready. Just need to wait until early March now to see it all installed.
DS school have just announced that his year will be doing work experience in the first week of July and it is their responsibility to find a placement. That will involve nagging from me! He has already asked if it is compulsory - yes DS it is. Told him if he wants a good place it will be necessary to ask earlier rather than later. We all know its going to be a last minute thing don't we lolMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Does he actually know what he want to do @slm6002? It's a good place to start! Not much point in him going into an office placement if he actually wants to work outdoors for example! It's what happened to my eldest. She wanted to do an apprenticeship of some sort (she actually got a good one with BT) but ended up with a work placement in a bank - the last place she ever wanted to work!

@joedenise he thinks he would like to be an architect or some kind of computer tech person. Anything he can do from home really. He doesn't really like socialising and his friends and teachers get this so we need to find somewhere that will take this into consideration but also answering all the questions he needs answering (probably whilst not asking!). It will be a steep learning curve for him but he does need to learn this skill moreMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

I wanted to work with animals. Got my work experience with the RSPCA and established I did not want to work with animals.
My second work experience was in an office, but they clearly didn't want a work experience kid, it totally put me off working in an office. Which in hindsight it turns out I'm likely the most suited to.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

I did 2 weeks, one in a high street bank and the other in a building society. I loved it especially working on the foreign money counter but that was when all countries had different currencies not just euros. When it was time to leave school and get a job banks were laying people off so I went into accountancy instead as it was still numbers and money which I love.Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Good morning, I was woken early by a text message saying the toilet is on its way. It is still not here but I am able to track it round half the county, even though at one point it was in reaching distance, it is obviously taking the scenic route.
Anyway I realised that it is payday today so I have transferred money into pots. Been meaning to say I still had £66 in the Christmas pot so that is a bonus already for next year. I will still need to move money into my government savings bank account but I cant do that until Jan.
No real plans today as I will be waiting in for deliveries. We are still needing to do homework and I have a pile of washing to catch up on. I need to finalise the next food shop before tonight too. I also need to book my MOT as it is due mid Jan. Might see if they can do it before school goes back.
Yesterday we went to the bank and I changed over my name for the children's accounts (had needed to wait for driving licence and a weekday I wasn't working). We got some fresh air and walked so save a little on petrol too. Need to do more of this for health and money reasons.
So many sale emails are coming into my inbox but I don't need anything so I have been good and deleted them all so I am not tempted. Will save a few more pounds.Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Well I think it has finally stopped raining and there might be a small glimmer of brightness coming through. It wont last long as the sun will soon be setting but better than nothing. I've not done much at all today and have been sitting on the web and thinking most of the day. I have been reading bits to inspire and organise so all worthwhile. I booked my MOT and as they had a cancellation I am booked in for 9.15 tomorrow. Fingers crossed it needs nothing after paying out the other month for the repairs.
The toilet arrived and is now in the garage. Tomorrow I will take a better look at to make sure its all in one piece and ready for installation. I need to put the sink and unit in there too.
I am thinking pasta bake tonight for a quick and easy dinner to warm us up.
I need to work out storage for food items once the understairs has been converted into WC as that is currently storing quite a bit. I know how I would like the kitchen but that will involve a whole lot of change and money which is not the next job (upstairs bathroom needs sorting before the kitchen), so I need cheap and temporary adjustments to keep us going until its time. Also we may go back to our sturdier table after the pantry door has been sealed up. I need to speak to my brother to see if he can hang door between lounge and kitchen on the opposite side and to open into kitchen rather lounge. I need to have a good think how it will all work. Lots of drawing plans and making adjustments I thinkMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Have you got, or can you get a cheap, bookcase and put it in your bedroom for example and use that as extra food storage? Perhaps hang a curtain over it to find the tins and packets.

After doing the bedrooms most of the spaces have already been filled with storage and then filled with belongings. We did have a quick chat about it yesterday and DS is the only one with any room left under his bed. At a push we would put some bits there but I think we need a more long term solution as the kitchen realistically is some years off. The garage is too damp and varies from really cold to really hot depending on the weather so not really a solution either. I think it might be a case of swapping some bits around and then seeing if I can add an extra base cupboard and possibly another wall unit. I would like to buy some cheap worktop or get an offcut to make a sort of U shape. This would still give plenty of space but would allow me to divide the kitchen diner a little more and get room for at least another bas cupboard. All in my head currently so may not work. Need to see how far I could realistically move the dishwasher

Good morning, well I have been up early as had to take the car for its MOT. Unfortunately it failed, but as it was not due until 18th Jan I am allowed to drive it and it is due to go in on 11th Jan to be mended and MOT'd again. I only need to pay the 1 MOT though and the part I need to replace is about £60. I am hoping it doesn't take too much time to replace so labour costs are minimal. It is a rod that has snapped at the back of the car - no idea to be honest but they are a good garage so I trust them. I was more concerned that the cat on the exhaust was going to be the problem as there was a warning on last years one. Apparently that is all ok now - that would have been closer to £600 so happy with just the £60 ish.
Shortly I will drop DD1 off at work and then continue with the clearing of the house. First lot of washing is in the machine, but there are big piles starting to mount up. Ooh my new dress also arrived this morning and is much thicker than I expected so it will keep me warm. I still need to try it on but looks good so far.
I am currently sitting watching the cat play with a bauble on the Christmas tree. This is the first time that I have ever seen them even remotely interested in it since they came to live with us a few years ago. It's really cold in the house today, not sure why as quite warm outsideMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19
