Ok so over the past few days my hallway has become stinky.  One of my cats likes to use one specific spot as their toilet every now and again - not all of the time and they have their clean litter tray for when indoors.  I dutifully clear it up and clean the area, but this time I cant even find which area of the carpet it is. I only had the carpet replaced a short while ago.  I am wondering if it is worth removing this small bit of carpet and having wooden laminate put down, leaving the carpet on the stairs.  As the not so distant plan is to sell the house I do not want to spend a fortune, but also cant live with it as it is.  It would not make a good first impression of the house for anyone viewing it.  I reckon I would only need 1 pack of flooring as really is quite a small space, but obviously I will need to measure things properly.  I know we used to have some spare that the previous owners left in the garage rafters.  I will check there first.  I think these next few months will be spent trying to make the house as sellable as possible but spending as little as possible.  That was as soon as its signed over I can put it on the market (same day would be good - Ex didn't want me and the kids to move which is why its not already on the market!). I really do not want to be on the market for years again and end up getting nowhere fast.

Oh yeah I would definitely replace the carpet with a bit of laminate. The smell would be enough to put me off as a buyer. My mum is a cat lover and has 7 of them. When she recently renovated her house of 20 years she had to rip all the floorboards and joists up in the hallway because they were saturated with cat pee. The house is definitely more appealing to walk into now.

I look forward to you being able to sell and move a away from the ex. You will have your freedom and peace of mind soon enough. Good luck x

Thank you FtbDreaming.  It's not at the point of overwhelming, but I can smell it so anyone visiting would.  I spoke to my brother who is quite good at DIY and has done many laminate floors compared to my no floors!  He would help me.  So next step get my bum off sofa and into the garage for tape measure and to see if there are any extra sheets in rafters.  It would be good if it matched the lounge floor and there was enough for free.  Kids have moved from kitchen table doing lego to just dance on the switch. DD's shopping spree is appearing in dribs and drabs today and so far had 2 delivery men appear.

Cat's are a pain for that aren't they. Our cat has wrecked our landing carpet too - but not planning to do anything about it until just before we put the house on the market in case we sort it only for her to wreck it again.

Yes we love our cats but they can be a pain, they know their own minds and will do whatever they want.
Just got my most recent credit report through and they have finally removed the missed payments off it (i had paid but they had recorded it incorrectly.  After I wrote to them with evidence they agreed to amend their reports).  I am hoping it will help when the new mortgage is needed.
