Thank you @debtfreewannabe321 fingers crossed today will improve.  DD1 will be paying me 10% of her wages so yes should cover that.  She is giving me her Christmas cash this month as hates having real money and the hassle of having to pay it into the bank.  I don't mind as will keep it in cash for those times when it is better to use than debit card.  Overall though I am now over £1000 down on my income each month due to DD1 leaving school and becoming and adult, as well as XH having a stroke and paying me little or no money, and now the debt that I need to pay back.

The boiler man has found a part and with labour it will cost me £225.  I said to go ahead so he has ordered the parts.  Not sure when they will arrive and when he will be able to replace broken part, but at least it isn't a whole new boiler that I need. I hope it is soon, because even though we limit the heating, we will put it on when this cold for an hour or so just to warm the air a little.

No wonder you are feeling a bit grumpy. You have had no heating for quite a while now and the builders sound so inconsiderate and rude. That would upset any of us. I guess you will just have to block them in and disappear for a few hours around home time, see how they like it. You have lost such a huge amount of your income recently. Is there any chance that DD1 would increase her contribution. It sounds like what she is paying will hardly cover her share of the council tax and her food. If she doesn't want to increase what she pays maybe she could buy some of her own food. t must be difficult to manage with such a huge drop in income. It is surprising that you remain so positive most of the time.

10% of DDs wages seems very low.  Back in the 60s when I first started work I had to hand over 25% of my take home pay and I still managed to save some!  I think she's getting away very lightly.

Argh what a rubbish day. You're always so busy with so much on your mind that it is not surprising it's making it's way into your dreams! Just remember that you're doing an amazing job and make sure you take some time to look after yourself x

Thank you everyone for your thoughts.  I expect we will increase the amount next month.  I do buy her main dinner food but she has been buying her lunch food and any snacks that she wants.  She has bought clothes shoes etc for a long time now.  I need her help with funds but I also would like her to be able to save for her deposit too.  I also think a small part of me wanted to keep her employed, and if I was going to nick (her way of seeing it) her money what was the point in working at all.  Now she is in a job she seems to like it will be different.  Will see how we both get on and adjust.

Really hoping to hear from the boiler man today as the temperature according to the kitchen thermometer we have is 10 degrees.  Might do some baking and washing to get the oven and tumble dryer on if not as that might bump the heat in there.  Hard frost outside.

Yesterday DD1 made me sort out the garage,  and I put a lot of things on olio.  Well my phone was pinging away all night trying to arrange collections.  Had one last night and several today, then one tomorrow.  We have managed to create quite a good space in there now.  Have set up a bike on a roller type thing so that it is like a exercise bike, we have a boxing bag from olio a few years back that we need to hang, and a treadmill that my brother is giving us.  There will be a little gym in our garage.  It is freezing in there but hopefully once we get peddling and walking we will warm up.

It will also allow me to find all of my tools and pop them in the half empty tool box so I can find things again when needed.

So today will be more cleaning, I still need to box up Christmas and pop it back in the loft.  Many collections of stuff from garage.  DD2 has another craft thing at the library but will walk to and from as I am waiting in for people.  I need to WD40 the gate as it was frozen when DD1 was trying to leave this morning.  Oh and I need to find my password book so I can check my premium bonds.  Maybe I will be a winner lol (never won in the previous 47 years so I am due a win )

Good luck with the PB 👏🏻🤞🏻

I had to pay my mum £200 way back in the 90s and I was a single mum in her box room with only a 30hr a week job. I also put aside money to save for a deposit on my own house. I got my DS1 to give me £250 a few years back when he was working alongside his last year of a levels. I was really struggling to keep the roof over our heads at that point and he actually offered it to me rather than me demanding it... perhaps you could share your budget with DD and show her where the stolen money goes 🤣 she might have a change of heart and offer more up willingly (and I also think it's a good idea to implement this now before she gets used to a whole wage there is bound to be more push back as we all live to our means, teens included!)

Will have a chat with DD1 over the weekend and sort out an increased amount.

No luck on the PB's and would have been really shocked if by some miracle I had lol.  Some collections of garage bits have been done, but still a few more due.  Kitchen cleaned but still need to get some washing on and the decorations put away.  Helps to keep warm if I move but also enjoying the chance to just sit.

Old plastic garden chairs collected, but still waiting on a few other people before its all gone.  Dad popped round to collect a wheel barrow,  as our garden is no where near big enough to need one and if we do we can borrow one.  I think it dates back to XH needing it and buying one as borrowing something to use once was not what he would do.

Just made a sprout gratin with the last of the brussels and cream.  I still have a whole plastic container of cheap veg to get through.  I have a vague meal plan for the next few days which is going to help use some more bits up.  The freezer is being reduced and the last bits from Christmas are also starting to go.  No healthy eating here until Feb as I have a birthday to get through first.

Tree has been taken down and only 1 bauble has broken.  Found my warmer slippers at last - nearly caved and bought some more but knew they had to be around somewhere.  Still no news from the boiler man as to if the part has arrived and when his coming.  I am going to be very happy to get back to work at this rate just to have some heating.

DD2 is on her way home but said she has had a good day.

Think this is great advice, pointless to get used to a large whole wage and then actually have to pay rent and all the food ;) She may never recover from the shock! (I dont think I have yet)

Sorry re the heating - I have a heated throw and its perfect and cheap to run - mine is a Dreaml&&d one - I take it everywhere with me like a toddler (lounge, study, bedroom ;)
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
