Eon billing

SalveForOldSores said:I've been with Eastern Electricity Board/Eon for 35 years.Running away to an alternate supplier to obtain better prices or customer service only works if there is a real market with real alternate sources of supply. It may not be perfect competition, but why are you choosing to pay far more than necessary, and to keep putting up with such poor service? What incentive does an expensive and unhelpful supplier have to get cheaper and better if its dissatisfied customers can't even be bothered to dump them? You're just cutting off your nose to spite your face.Do you even know how much more it's costing you? Enter your annual kWh usage into some comparison sites starting with Citizens Advice and 'Switch with Which?'. You can check the service ratings at CA and on the relevant feedback threads on the MSE Energy forum.Ignore all projections and savings claims, just and compare the annual costs with what you are paying with E.On, remember that single suppliers are probably cheaper, and pay by DD to get the lowest rates. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised by significant savings and far better service.1

I've managed to work round the block on access to a copy of my bill in my on-line Eon account.
In case anybody else is affected I'll detail the temporary "Solution" boge below.
The problem's caused by an incorrect detail in a file call in the HTML code attached to the "View Bill" button on the Eon home page. This can be "Fixed" my simply editing part of the HTML script attached to the "View Bill" button. The alteration is in fact a deletion of the file name. making this change and then right-clicking the "View Bill" page takes the user to the Payments page on which there are a number of button options to view or download the bill. These all work.(Note: I was unable to access the "Payments page" any other way through the existing legitimate menu. Also note: That the deletion the user makes in the HTML code does not persist, so that if you log-out and then re-log-in to your account, the user must edit the HTML again.
Solution:
Right click on the "View Page" button and a list box will appear. Scroll down the list box to "Inspect" and click on it.
A new window will appear on the right of the screen and it contains the HTML script for the Eon Home page and shows the HTML code relevant to the button highlighted in blue (In bold italics below) :-<a href="/for-your-home/your-account/billing-and-payments/detailed-bill" class="c-button c-button--text"> <span class="c-button__text">View my bill</span></a>
Right-click on this code and a list box will appear. Scroll-down to "Edit HTML" and right click and a further edit box will appear.
The box performs like a normal text editor. Pan across to the words "/detailed-bill" and delete the all letters and symbols I've indicated in parenthesis. When that's done, move the cursor outside boundary of the edit box and right-click. That will save your alteration to the HTML script.
Then right-click on the "View Bill" button and you're taken to the "Payments page" where you can access your current and past bills.
Job done, in a fashion.
Next job: Write to the CEO and tell him to stop wazzing his customers about0 -
A security issue that could be exploited ?
So there's no way of making each HTML page downloaded to a service users computer secure ?
What happened to "Look, but don't touch" ?
Surely the security imperative applies to even greater degree with interpreted script files given that HTML coding is readily understood by a wider audience than the usual geek clique ?
How long has HTML been going . . . . ?
Corporate negligence.
No wonder "Cosy Bear" and the like are all over Western institutions like a rash.

Just look at this catalogue of woe from the weekend.0 -
Just waiting for the following post to be approved for general viewing on Down Detector (They're very good on unexplained) censorship:-
09:02 Log-in via windows 10 desktop now works (Part of your chocolate ration has been randomly restored - 1984 style), but now the "View Bill" button on the home page doesn't appear and attempts to access another "View Bill" button on the "Account" page results in the "Something's Blown" error page - this page also says that my account has had to be disabled while the fault is fixed. Also, the after log -out web page shows another error page reading "Error 502 - Bad Gateway", "Browser working, Cloudfare working, host error".
So, unfixed error persisting for only a fortnight and no published or advised resolution time/date. Superb ! Outstanding Customer Service !
Judging by some of the comments below and the order Eon now appears in Google web searches and what happens when you search for Martin Lewis's Money Saving Expert site, one wonders if factors external to Eon or unfair competitive practices are in-play from outside interests.

Thank goodness the ol' regulator is not behaving as if he's taken the Mogadon supplement in preparation for the 100 yard dash !0

My on-line account with Eon is still, after 48 hours, far from completely functional.
I can log-on, but effectively can't do anything other than pay. Only the "Make a payment" page is working.
My account is still showing an amount outstanding for which I made a payment over a week ago. So it would appear that payments received by Eon are not being posted to/recorded against my account.
I can't see my bill or any other aspect of my account, other than the "Make a Payment" Page.
The bill is the only limitation of liability that the customer has
Whose going to make a payment without seeing a bill ? And how can you have the confidence that any money you may pay is being correctly handled if it doesn't appear to be credited to your account ?
I am not alone. There are Eon customers on "Pay-as-you-go" schemes who are now unable to heat their premises after a week because Eon has cut them off and left them in limbo, due to the apparent collapse of its on-line systems:-

Again, just-in case Down detector decide to "No-platform"/censor my comments and remove them I'll post 'em here as well:-
"Yet another earlier factual report post removed referring to Eon's Terms and Conditions.
Talk about no-platforming.09:22 6/01/2021 48 - hours in. I can log-in to my on-line Eon account, on either Windows or Android platforms, but can't do or see anything relevant other than pay - only the "Payment page" is working.
My account is still showing an amount outstanding for the last quarter which I paid electronically through my bank using an account-to-account transfer over a week ago. Usually that gets cleared within maximum 3 days.
The billing page is still not available.
Who's going to pay without sight of a bill ? Its the consumer's only protection against unlimited liability. And who's going to pay without evidence from Eon that the money has been received and correctly applied to their account ?"

True to form DownDetector removed the post. So I posted this:-
0:00 6/01/2021 2nd post of the morning removed This crowd must be really fearful of Eon suing them.- just as well I'm copying them to a well known money saving web site's energy forum - see Eon billing

That one taken down as well:-
See my reply to another Eon customer:-What is going on here? What is going on with EON? Why nobody is helping us to solve this ?- Nicholas Roberts jenny spanish • 20 minutes ago • edited
Who knows. Perm any 8 from 10. Maybe they've been hacked. Maybe its a hardware failure. Maybe its related to our recent exit from the EU (Eon HQ is in Germany). Maybe its HMG are trying to reduce cash flow by preventing all those cold weather payments being redeemed - joke ?
If the problems with Eon persist then I would suggest the first stop is Citizen's advice. But given the current pandemic and the the reports, on this forum, that vulnerable people are having their power cut-off, I'd say its worth copying in your MP and Ofgem. Eon must have a nation-wide customer base, QED it is a national problem of some urgency given the weather conditions. Its a bit ironic that OAP's get a cold weather payment from Her Majesty's government, make a payment to Eon, as I did and then are unable to confirm whether Eon have received it or whether its been correctly applied to their account.
