24, in 1974. Husband and I had just returned from three years in South Africa - went there straight after marriage. Used all our own money. Then we moved to Australia. I think we'd be quids in now if we hadn't moved around so much but we did. Oh well. We moved around a lot, both here and overseas. Later husband went, I became a single parent and now live in a council flat. Mind you, it's in a lovely rural setting, can't complain. And I can buy if I want to, with a very healthy discount. I'm considering that now. Couldn't have stayed in one place for long, though. It may be sensible but I've been around the world, lived in different countries, seen lots of wonderful things and met some great people. I don't own my own property but don't regret what I've done and seen. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. 26. Even over 40 years ago parts of Surrey were totally unaffordable. Gave up a 20 minute walk to work for a 40 minute car commute. Moving away was the only way to get a foot on the ladder. No bank of mum and dad to bail me out. Those days from a young age we were taught to stand on own two feet.0
