Well done, and thanks for letting us know your good news.

Please tell everyone you know about this forum, and what to do (and not do) if they receive a scamvoice.

A thank you to whoever got it cancelled won't hurt either.

Happy new year folks! Sad that I am spending new year on my laptop, but thought I would pass on the good news. My email to the CEO and Carpetright customer service got their attention and the secretary from their property services department had the charge cancelled. It now appears as that on UKPC website. Thanks to all the folks here for their help and guidance.
Well done, nice start to the New Year for you. 🥂

I guess retailers are starting to realise that they will need customers even more desperately now in COVID times than they have so complacently taken for granted hitherto. Allowing a parasite to leech customers away from them by issuing spurious and vicious charges is hopefully becoming less prevalent.

  • Hi all

Pretty new to this forum, I often read it for help and tips but this is my first time posting. Just wanted to thank you all for the great info received for help with a UKPC parking charge.

We we’re furniture shopping at Metro Retail Park last Sunday. We ended up spending a decent amount in Barker & Stonehouse, however it took us 4.5 hours to make our minds up and we received a £100 parking charge from those kind people at UKPC, £60 for swift payment.

I immediately phoned the Barker & Stonehouse shop only to be told there’s nothing they can do as the car park is owned by someone else and managed by a third party. That’s when I began googling and reading several threads on here. This thread was the most similar to our scenario and also the most informative.

The best guidance was the fact that every retailer on the park has the ability to add customers to their exempt list for each day, speak to the managing agent and not to deal directly with UKPC.

I emailed B&S head office and also emailed Savills, who are employed by the land owners to manage the site. Between the 2 of them we’ve had our parking charge cancelled within 24hrs. Simple as that!

Just wanted to come on and say a big thank you to all the experts out there, your information is vital and spot on accurate, my case is proof that it can be done if you know how! Thanks and keep up the good work.

    Very nice result.

Savills have been pretty consistent in being helpful to motorists who have had genuine reasons for falling foul of the PPC. Undoubtedly Savills will have contracted UKPC to manage the site for them, but are pragmatic enough to know the damage they can do to hard-pressed retailers trying to survive. Losing them their customers is a sure way to soon have an empty retail unit, no rent coming in and little chance of re-letting it.

It was also good that you made your case to the MD of the retailer in parallel - maybe they also pressed Savills simultaneously - good pincer movement approach.

    Great!

Now don't forget to come back to us to discuss and complete your response to the Government's final Public Consultation about the level of parking charges.

    Don't miss it!

Probably opens in January and it's your only chance to change the law on private parking scams.

You just need to read the most recent updates on the thread by MSE_JC about the appeals guide.  Those later responses explain it.

Then bookmark it and set email alerts.  Come back when we tell everyone it is open for comments.
