So pleased to see a really positive update. Well done it's a huge achievement!
  • Thank you very much for the update.  You are truly an inspiration to those who are struggling with an addiction of any type.  Long may it continue.  Whilst I understand your concern to 'come  clean 'with your family, don't rush into this move without thinking long and hard about it.  To have come this far, it would be a tragedy to create more turmoil.  Having said that, I do understand your reasons.  Good luck

    Fantastic update!

You have started well and hope that this is long term and you put gambling behind  you.

Try to enjoy the moment, spend time with your wife and children and find other hobbies that can take your mind off gambling.

you can close your PayPal account down or change the password to something random that you won’t remember.

When you are ready can have the chat with your partner. Will feel good to get this secret out and live a free life. It has happened, she will be upset you didn’t tell her earlier but better late than never.

Wish you all the very best!

Certain people need to stop with the unhelpful bashing, dressed up as 'advice'.

OP, you can, and you WILL do this.  It is a fantastic time to do this too, just before a new year

People can and do overcome addictions of all sorts, all the time.  I admire your bravery coming on here and talking about it and I wish you all the very best.

Whilst wishing the OP well, and well done on the update, this sort of sanctimonious twaddle is not actually helpful, and the advice was not "bashing" but based on real life experience.
    Not even wrong

Haha... I mean, what is the point in even posting this comment? Do you really have nothing better to do? Presumably you just like winding people up.

That post was helpful and encouraging to me and as it was a message to me, you're putting words in my mouth.

Based on real life experience of my own addiction I can say that words of encouragement go a long way to helping me and continue to do so.
Another example of prescriptive behaviour taking precedent over human decency and manners...

Not sure I would 'come clean' after all this time, why take the chance of rocking the now stable boat?
  • Wow, well done @TwoUpTwoDown

You are doing so good I'm so pleased to have come across this update and see how far you have come WAHOOO

For my tuppenth, If it were me, I am not sure I would speak to family now.  The reason being is that you are in a much better place and having sorted finances out - other than clearing your conscience, what is there to gain?

Maybe you feel guilty, and I totally understand that, a need to come clean - but clearing your conscience might kick off issues in the household

So say feeling guilty, its a bad feeling right? and only you feel that at the minute - but if you put it out there - then everyone is going to have a bad feeling (for a while).  It really is a tough one but honestly it depends if you feel you can live without telling them

Yeah thinking about it I wouldn't talk to family but I would maybe talk to a counsellor if I felt I needed to talk to someone - there are a lot of free NHS talking therapies, I am not sure how you feel about that, but it is an idea

Take care and thanks for updating

You realise you are responding to 12 month old (as you call it) 'sanctimonious twaddle' with actual sanctimonious twaddle that is unhelpful and argumentative.

Ironic post - great job!  Try typing faster next time
