I told myself when we were told about this government bonus earlier in the year it would go to debt and nothing else. And I was determined to stick to my plan I could of spent it on something nice or booked a holiday but that was the plan for it I didn't know earlier in the year it would pay off the balance. But a few months ago I sat myself down and worked out that if I was careful I should with the bonus be debt free the month I turn 30 or the month after. 🤔 with 8 days left until I turn 30 we did it ❤️🥳
The bonus was from the Welsh government to all Care Workers. I've worked all the way through since the start of the pandemic. I've cared for people who died of covid. I've hugged loved ones to those who have died since not related to covid. I've stayed upto 5 hours past my shift not getting back till the early hours because of night workers calling in sick, I caught covid from work when we had the covid outbreak last January and I've never been the same health wise since. I've sacrificed time with my family and kids because sick residents or residents family needed me in that moment more. I've struggled to breathe wearing a mask to protect my residents. I've argued with general practioners because they refused to come and see a poorly resident that needed them. I've made 999 calls and waited by a residents side for upto 2 hours while we wait for paramedics to arrive. I fought for overtime rate for myself and my other colleagues. I've hugged colleagues, I've wiped their tears, I've picked them back up and dusted them off told them they can do it, they are appriciated, they are amazing at their job and just for being them. the hardest thing of all I've held a residents hand knowing it will be the last time, I've said goodnight, see you tomorrow even though I know tomorrow they would no longer be with us. I've washed and dressed them for the last time. I've cried with residents. I've laughed with them, I've comforted them, I've took them to appointments, I've said good morning, I've said goodnight. Ive built relationships with my residents and collegues that are closer than relationships i have with family. Because they are my family. They are the best team. And i will continue to love and support them and help them become the best of themselves because they deserve nothing less than love support and appreciation.
I didn't expect to get any bonus from anywhere my work place doesn't pay bonuses but I am so extremely greatful. It doesn't heal the tears and heartache that I and thousands of others endure in our job as care assistants / seniors but it does help soften the blow when for once we were noticed by the government. ❤️June 17 £16,000 debt ~ nov 18 DEBT FREE •June 21 £16,308 debt / july 22 debt free •Original mortgage free date 01/06/2059 current mortgage free date 01/05/20467 -

Hugs love positivity and prayers to all that Need / want one.
@peb thank you so much.
Okay so after years of writing diaries on here if there is one thing I have learnt is if you don't have a plan for your money it gets wasted. Its abit like time. If you plan out your day you are more productive. So I thought I would reset myself some goals for the rest of this year now I've achieved our main goal
There are 163 days left of this year as of today.
1. 1000 hours outside (600 so far)
2. At least 10 no spend days a month
3. Current mortgage balance £114,518.71
Mortgage balance goal £110,000.00
4. Declutter
5. Get carpet fitted In DD bedroom

Something I thought might be of Interest. Especially to students.
I think I've mentioned it before on a previous post but as I'm now studying again I thought I'd mention it while I'm using it 😅
While I've studied on and off over the years I've never paid for Microsoft Office. I use Google docs or Google spreadsheets on my phone as an app and on my Internet browser. It also saves your work seconds after you have made a change so you will never loose your work again.
If you have a Microsoft word doc emailed to you if you download it on your phone and open it with Google docs instead of office you will then have the file on your Google docs account this is how I've completed units for my qualifications over the years when they are emailed over to me as Microsoft word documents. Once I have opened and saved it on docs on my phone I can then open and edit it on docs on my Internet browser on my computer. I also never buy reference books I either use the Internet for everything or borrow the books from the libary.

Evening all I really would like to stay on this board. But I also feel like we kind of don't belong here now we are debt free.We need to do work on the house 🏠 so I don't plan to start overpaying the mortgage yet. But I also want to continue to document our journey 😢 I have been onto my online banking because I wanted to increase our mortgage payment by 47.50 a month as we were paying £50 a month to the housing association so I thought I'd rather it go straight to the mortgage now we are no longer paying it.Our original mortgage term was taken out over 40 years in June 2019 so our original redemption date was June 2059 we have made some overpayments and then when our fixed 2 year deal ended we remortgaged for a slightly better interest rate which reduced our payment amount we then increased our mortgage payment close to our original mortgage payment amount and decreased our term. So we currently have 29 years 7 months remaining.
On our first 2 year fixed rate we were paying £466.65
We are currently on a year 5 fixed rate (about 6 months into it) and paying £437.94 (without paying the £47.50 extra
So at the moment without adjusting it again so far in 37 months we have
Shaved 7 years 4 months off the mortgage and managed to keep the payment to less than our original fixed term amount. 😀
My original goal when we bought the house in 2019 was to be debt free by the time we turned 40 that would of gave us about 13 years. Now we would be trying to crush it in 10 years. Which I don't think will be possible but I'm going to give it our best shot. While still trying to make the most of life and enjoy life but on a budget I suppose. 🤷♀️
I think I'll start a new diary. It feels unfair to be talking about paying down the mortgage on this board. So I'll pop over there at some point over the weekend and post a link to my new diary on here ❤️❤️❤️
Thankyou so much to all of you for your kindness, love and support during our debt free journey. I hope you will join me on our next chapter.
Love, hugs, happiness, positivity and prayers to you all. 💖 it's definitely not goodbye 😢 see you soon my beautiful diary friends ❤️June 17 £16,000 debt ~ nov 18 DEBT FREE •June 21 £16,308 debt / july 22 debt free •Original mortgage free date 01/06/2059 current mortgage free date 01/05/20465 -
