Morning MrsSD & fellow declutterers, well the 1st phase of Operation Attic Declutter once and for all has been done (kind of). Grouped all the stuff which I can see into piles (recycling - fabric/electronics/paper, junk, clothes for charity, potential for selling). Summary as follows:-
Paper/Cardboard - four battered boxes which previously contained games & modelling clay. Various other forms of paper.
Recycling fabric - one large bag. Will take this to Recycling Centre this coming weekend.
Recycling electronics - old bits and bobs of electronics (two tablets (one of which is cracked) - will take to RC at the weekend.
Clothes for charity - one large bag. There is a firefighters charity clothes bin near where I live so that is going in there this coming weekend.
Junk (non recyclable waste) games which have been battered lots of other bits & bobs. Plus my daughter's old dolls and their high chair. I would say there is two large bin bags full of stuff.
Once this corner of the attic has been cleared (this weekend) then I can begin to work through the next group of things. Key for me this weekend is to get the junk and recycling out of the attic.
Am back to work tomorrow, my wife has recovered from the virus from what I can see, although she still has ups and downs with her mental health.
Will keep you all posted this weekend on progress made, cheers 🙂
PS: my daughter decided to build her own den from the space which I created from decluttering the first part of the attic. So I will be working around her creation in the days and weeks to come 😄

Well, I didn't manage it. I fell 21 items short which makes it 444/465. Even though my fleabay items turned out to be included! (Although, now I think about it, I did do more than 21 extra early on.)
I'm not particularly unhappy though because that's still a massive start, and I will carry on. My challenge in Feb is the items I didn't manage in Jan plus one for each day of the month. So 49 items.
Keep up the good work everyone!
Love your daughter's den Leelad - great that she is already making good use of the space !!

Love the den Leelad!
Haven't posted for 3 weeks due to a bad time with fatigue. Seem to have recovered at last and managed to get back into decluttering at the weekend. Scores on the doors are:
37 items (including 18 paperwork)
32 old emails deleted
Am a bit behind again with current emails so will try to get back on top of those this week.
We managed to get both freezers defrosted and have done some batch cooking since as part of our day to day meal plan to stock them back up again. Marking the opening dates on fridge items (drinks cartons and jars etc) is working a treat and there is less waste now. The stock rotation system for store cupboard items works well as long as OH remembers to tell me when he takes something out of the stocks to go in his kitchen cupboards so I can update the list. Shopping is better targeted too.
I'm so glad I cancelled lots of catalogues and other marketing mailouts last year - the amount of mail coming in has greatly reduced so my time is being better used elsewhere rather than dealing with items I don't want or need.
We didn't buy each other much for Christmas (OH's presents for me were most thoughtful) and friends mainly gave us consumables so we've been able to reduce the amount of new things coming in to stay. We're also buying much less which is saving time, money and clutter so I'm feeling so much better overall.

Lots to catch up on! Well done everyone!I have done a Marie Kondo folding exercise in the kitchen drawer which has hand towels and tea towels. There’s also a couple of packets of new dishcloths in there ( can never have enough) a small cool bag I used to take picnic food on days out ( when they used to happen) and 2 tablecloths. We never use tablecloths - we have a 3 year old and a very old table so we just wipe it down. It my mum gave me the tablecloths and we might have used them once at Christmas when she visited, am thinking about whether we really need to keep them.Anyway it’s a very big drawer and literally full of tea towels and towels .... how many do we really need I ask myself? anyway the folding at least makes the drawer look neat and tidy and I can see what we’ve got if I decide to edit a bit later.
I also did the same folding in all of our clothes drawers - DH has two big under the bed drawers, I sorted and folded - last time I did this lasted about 2 weeks before he had made a disorganised mess, so we shall see.
mine was not too bad ( I only have 1) and it was edited recently. I have several drawers with bedding in that needs an edit ( it’s on my list). then LO dresses herself so no matter how often I beautifully fold her clothes, it never lasts long. Oh well, I feel better for it now at least.
I have tried to freecycle a carrycot but one wants it yet - it would be a large item out of the way and it’s beautiful, hardly used, so I hope it finds a good home. Also a few more flea bay items have bids on so hoping to get those packaged up and out the house this week.
Apart from the washing machine seems to be continuously on, no cleaning done as yet today. LO and I went for a long walk to the park, around the park and back again, and we’ve had our main meal for lunch today. There’s toys all over the place and now we have dressing up clothes out, we made banana and blueberry muffins yesterday, and so hope to have one of those later with a cuppa and maybe watch Bambi ( need some chill out time!)10 -
Afternoon all, don't know about anyone else but am cold today. Admin frogs and solicitors bits done. I have just wiped the thick dust and decluttered on top of the wardrobe - well worth the effort.
To go
3 cardboard boxes flattened for recycling that used to live on top of the wardrobe.
Not out yet but earmarked..
A vase
Dog bed
Very large suitcase
2 KS duvet covers.
Reorganised the toolbox so old nails, screws and oddments out there.
Also on a use up of handcream, cleanser and face pack so I've put all three on now 😂
Shall grab a bag and do a sweep of each room for clutter before the day is out.
Need to set myself a goal of 21 items for ebay - shall list all the lower value then hoping to get the £1 listing Friday for the big ticket items.

Thanks @EnergyShifter !
2/49 Feb challenge -0 had to give OH 2 items to make up his £5 minimum to send to music magpie. Still, worth it to get his books out of the house too! He has also suggested I tackle the board games chest... horrors! But I probably will

Hello everyone, I haven't been here for a while - since mid last year in fact. My decluttering journey was interrupted by my pa's deteriorating health meaning fortnightly 500 mile journeys south, and he died in November so there's been lots of paperwork since (only child). At least I don't have the 8 hour drive any more! I've been lurking on here this week while nurturing my oomph, and think I am ready to make a start again. I wasn't entirely slack in January; there are four boxes waiting for the charity shops to reopen, a few things have gone out via Gtree and I am going to try Fbook too, but there's loads more.
MSE decluttered my old account too, along with some of its best emojis - I loved the hair raising shocker! I am very inspired by all your stories and snippets, and very much hope I can get lots of my clutter out before my pa's stuff comes in! It's only taken me nearly 9 years to start to sort and release my mum's things when her house was sold (hair raising shocker!!). It was a supportive and joyous thread last year and I can see that is continuing - well led by Mrs SD!
So, to start with can I sneakily count by decluttering 111 pages of this thread?
112 half empty jar of upmarket peanut butter (that no-one liked) into a PB choc chip cake
113-130 the jar to the bag of jars to go to the local jam lady (in the car ready to drop of on Wed at work)
131 an old working dishwasher sold on Gtree am delivering on Wed on way to work
I nearly decluttered the old dog out on our walk this afternoon - no idea how, as she was there one minute and gone the next. Found at the back door, clearly unimpressed being taken for walks in the snow.
