I was asking the OP why as per his set up .To see if it was his best option .See post 8 .
It's ok. I got what you were meaning :)

In the end my patience got the better of me. 4K stick should be arriving tomorrow. The only 'down'side seems to be FireOS 6 rather than 7. Beyond 6 being a lower number than 7 and therefore older (obviously) i don't actually know what this means in real-talk. I don't know what features are different.
Very little difference as far as Fire TV is concerned, the OS is based on the Android versions, Fire OS 6 is based on Android 7, whereas Fire OS 7 is Android 9 (pie). More relevant as far as the tablet devices than the TV.

All Fire sticks are in the process of being updated anyway so expect to see a new version of the interface soon.

Yeah i got what they were based on. Looked that up on Wikipedia. It was just words on a screen though ---- i didn't know what it actually meant, as in how my experience would differ with a stick that has OS 6 and a stick that has OS 7 on it (removing 4K as a difference factor).

I also read that it's unlikely the 4K stick will move from OS6 too.

Watch it though, having bought a 4K stick now, the 2021 4K new and improved stick will be rolled out in 14 days time.

Of course it will ... that's what happens to everyone once they buy some tech. 😁

Buy  from Amazon and return .
  • Well so far i've only done the stick setup and got Disney+ and Kodi on there and it's already worth the payment. So slick.

Installed the Fire TV app back on my phone because typing out stuff on the stick is annoying but aside from that i'm pretty impressed.

£13 to have a wired internet connection is a bit poor so i'll live with wireless.

it's well worth the outlay if you are streaming live events. keeps your connection far more stable and minimises buffering. wherever possible go for a wired solution over a wireless one even if your download speeds are high.

I am right in saying that a Firestick only does wireless, aren't I?
  • Natively, yes. But you can get an adapter that plugs into the USB port to provide an Ethernet (wired) connection.
  • Yeah i much prefer a wired connection wherever possible for anything. When the living room was ripped up i ran cat6 cable through the underfloor to make the living room wired.
I would have the fire stick wired too but i've spent enough lately. I know it's 'only £13' but i've spent enough for now. I'll take a look at a later date.

Leave him alone, he's got to fork out for a new Fire Stick in a few weeks when the new 4K version comes out 😂
