NVidia Shield is a far more powerful unit circa £200 .Depending upon what you want it for it can be overkill .It upscales content has more memory and can run many apps IPTV services etc but often bought for gaming .0

It's something i'd need to look more in to.And yeah, i followed the advice given here and also freed up about 1GB of space. Also seemed like i was way out on my Kodi version. I updated to 18.9 last night but i was on something like 17.6 or whatever it was.0

As expected Fire TV prices have come down amongst all retailers now, incl. Amazon but not as cheap as they were in the Black Friday sales, then you could get the 4K version for £29.99 and the standard latest gen version for £24.99.

You never mentioned it was Kodi installed version, that combined with it being 1st gen would probably account for it being so slow. It was never fast to begin with.JustAnotherSaver said:JJ_Egan said:NVidia Shield is a far more powerful unit circa £200 .Depending upon what you want it for it can be overkill .It upscales content has more memory and can run many apps IPTV services etc but often bought for gaming .I actually stumbled across it while looking in to Plex, so if it's great for that then it may be worthwhile. I would plug the stick in and it would take forever for the main menu to load. I'd then want to go down the selections which would present delay. I then wanted to open Disney+ which again was laggy. Once in Disney+ i wanted to work through the various selections which was also laggy. All of that was without going near Kodi.It was only last night while following the advice here that i found that my Kodi version was out of date, so i took the opportunity to update it. Maybe i shouldn't have said that as it's confused things?0 -
Install the 2 apps mentioned previously (Process and Dangbei) - these will help you keep the stick optimised (as much as a Gen 1 can be anyway). You might need to use Downloader to get the apps.1

Looking at the Amazon Fire Stick comparisons: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Fire_TVIs there any reason to get the 4K stick over the latest 3rd gen?The 4K stick is more expensive. It's 2 years older. It currently has an older OS (Fire OS 6 instead of 7 - whether that's a 'bad' thing i don't know). The CPU & GPU are the same really, as is the storage. There's minimal difference on RAM. How much difference 0.5GB makes in the real world i don't know.Jumping in both feet I would've thought 4K is better ... it's 4K right (yep, my TV is a 4K TV btw). But looking at those stats, the sticks are pretty much the same yet the latest one is cheaper.Just wondering if i'm missing something.

Only if you have or planning to get a 4K TV. Apart from 4K and the inclusion of Dolby Vision they both have the same CPU and as you mention a negligible difference in RAM. I've got the standard gen 3 during the black friday sales for £24 and replaced my old 4K Fire TV box and have been more than happy with it.JustAnotherSaver said:Looking at the Amazon Fire Stick comparisons: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Fire_TVIs there any reason to get the 4K stick over the latest 3rd gen?
Edit. Sorry, I didn't fully read your post. As you have a 4K TV then I'd pay slightly more and get the 4K stick. It has been down as far as £29 and probably will be again in the post-Xmas sales.1 -
It already is down to 39 from 49.
The question is whether it's likely to drop further after Xmas or go back to 49.
If I buy now it'll likely drop further. If I leave it then this will be the best it'll be until next black Friday. Lol.0 -
