Happy Easter weekend everyone!
we’ve got a houseful of kids so I’m just taking a minute to hide 🫣
I sorted out mortgage fix a few weeks okay, we are still on our current rate for another 102 days and then the fix takes effect. We wanted to stay with current lender and as it’s only a part of the mortgage, it isn’t worth paying a fee on. We’ve gone for 5 years at 3.05% with up to 50% overpayments. That increases our monthly payment by £29, last years OPs reduced the payment by £30 so we are at least a tiny bit ahead and I’m going to take that as a win in the current climate 🏆MFW 2021 #76 £5,145

Any win is definitely worth celebrating at the moment! Enjoy your hiding 😅!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!2 -
Kids gone! And relax… it’s been great having friends to stay, we never did in the old house but have a bit more room to rattle round here and kick them out into the garden.Mostly low spend as well, ate a lot out of the freezer so shop wasn’t too horrific for 8 of us. Free activities too- walking, park, car boot, parkrun and chilling out at home.Assorted spends:
£71 on roof and bits to finish my diy green house. The aim was to do it for free but I’ve been scouring free sites and checking skips for months and couldn’t find a suitable roof 🐯
£45 on fancy walking socks, I had to lie down after this but I’m walking the wales coastal path with my mum this month and needed to upgrade the sock collection. Being blister free will be worth it.£20 nephew Easter savings£6 Pokémon cards 😝 being the cool step mum does have a price (although cool may be an inaccurate descriptor)
Accounts and pots are all behaving. I need to check all the prices for the bills account next month and do some rejigging.Todays plan is to sort out some volunteering planning, potter in the garden and maybe go out for tea now it’s just me and T. Enjoy the sunshine wannabes xMFW 2021 #76 £5,145

Happy pay day!!
I’m on holiday but the money shuffle must go on 😆
not much to report, T is at home spending all our house money in pipes that I will never see (although I do get photo updates!). The goal being to have the external pipe work sorted for the en suite and fix anything that looks too dodgy whilst he’s got the drive dug up.
I’m in Wales walking with my mum and sister, it’s really warm so we’ve been having lots of pub and ice cream stops! Although being semi frugaleering with our own sarnies and had breakfast and dinner in our apartment yesterday. It’s a balance!Holiday spending so far £115 (including trains, excluding accommodation)
Pipe spending so far £309 + £70 mini skip
on that rational I’d say holidays are cheaper than diy!No saving planned this month but looking at OP of £600 as house pot is still looking healthy, helped by a top up from a family member thanks 🙏MFW 2021 #76 £5,145

Ah how exciting! I am near part of the wales coastal path (north wales side). Weather is glorious at the moment, perfect for walking, I have a particular favourite section that i frequently walk! Have an amazing time
Haha yes, I reckon a well planned holiday can be cheaper than DIY!!!2 -
Enjoy your time away and all those lovely views. I'm enjoying the Lakes - but had the equivalent of a duvet day today and have just looked outside so far rather than actually going. Kept the cost down though!!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Ok so i can use my "right to buy" option and can get my house for £40k (50%) discount entitled. Im self employed and earn £132 per week as well as the £69 carers. My daughter has just been awarded DLA which is £4429 per year and get that for the next 8year til she turns 16.
If i put down 15k deposit would the bank give me a mortgage ? With right to buy I dont need a deposit but wat to put it in the buy quickly and secure the house for my daughter.
