    What was the old TV?
Other than the connect one what features attracted you to that set.

Throw a bit more in the pot you can get a decent 65" Oled.

  • Hi sorry to revive this post I don’t know if it’s preferred to revive or post new but I’m in very similar situation to the person who created this post.

6 weeks ago I sent my Samsung 55” tv off for repair, it was purchased in December 2015 for £1649 and had 2 weeks left on its 5 year guarantee provided by currys. After weeks of chasing They’ve finally got back to me today saying it cannot be repaired and have offered £280 which won’t even buy me the lowest Samsung 55” model from currys.

I have told them I refuse the offer based on the fact I cannot replace it with another Samsung 55” with this amount but they are coming back adamant that’s the offer.

    Any advice?

( 5 year guarantee provided by currys.)
Depends what does the guarantee actually say .
Like for like ie 5YO tv for 5yo TV .
    Or as new replacement .
Suggest reading this thread and your guarantee terms .

  • Well currys own website specifically states we’ll fix it or replace it.
    Granted it later states that
    • we will replace it with a TV of equivalent specification. If we don't have an equivalent product, we'll discuss an alternative solution with you and we'll always do our best to make sure that you are satisfied with the outcome

Either way I’m not satisfied with the offer they have made I don’t believe it’s fair to force me to contribute to the replacement.

    Am I being unreasonable?

Equivalent is a 5 year old tv  see ebay for prices .
    Push for more .
But a £1600  TV is not worth a great deal five years later .

    Yeah I appreciate that

id be happy if the covered the cost of the lowest Samsung 55” they offer but they seem pretty stubborn on the matter

But that's not like for like is it .
If it worked that way no need to ever buy a new TV again .
What you are after is like plus ££.
Repeat your ask for more suggest £350 .

'Like for like' does not mean 'brand for brand'. Nor is it 'new for old'. What you have been offered won't buy you the cheapest 55 inch model they stock, which is a Logik at £320. So I'd be pushing for that much as a minimum.
The cheapest Samsung 55 inch is £450, so if you want that, you are going to have to make up the difference at your own cost.
Next time go to JL or RS for a much better deal and warranty.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

They should offer a like to like TV.
In my case, because I had One connect box / 60W speakers - which usually are present in high-end models - so they gave me 100% back. ( think I was lucky). Always choose a model with distinctive features.

Ask them what like to like TV they want to offer - and then compare with https://www.displayspecifications.com/ and get the closest matching TV .
Check Key Features/ Specs as :
Refresh rate ( vertical freq refresh rate)
    Display area
    Peak brightness
    Input lag -
    Audio output(Watts)
    Power consumption.

Share your TV model just to see if anythings stands out.

I have now bought a Samsung QE65Q90T which does not have 1 connect box but other distinct features. Happy to refer someone as Samsung is offering £200 to share.

    Thanks

my old tv that they have also had the one connect box, it was an 8000 series SUHD  so just below the flagship model which is why I’m pretty !!!!!! that I’d been told they would make an offer to replace the tv and they’ve made a pretty poor offer even for a 5 year old tv in my opinion.

They haven’t responded to my messages in 2 days this is the !!!!!! take I’ve had to work with for 6weeks now
