When is road tax due

DL18SV*   needs MOT at 26/6/21 (3 yrs). Why do I get a road tax reminder for 31/12/20 ????

MOT and VED (Tax) are two different things.

Does your current VED/tax run out on 31/12?

I recall that, due to Covid, there was a 6 month extension on some MOTs.

Perhaps that applies to your car.

Or perhaps your car only had 6 months tax at some stage. That would put it out of sync with MOT dates.

no, VED is payable all the time from new.

When a car changes keeper, the old keeper has the remainder of their tax refunded, and the new keeper needs to tax it afresh. That's why the two dates go out of sync.

Look at https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ to see when tax and MOT are due.

Let's say you bought brand new, looks like in June/July this year you taxed the vehicle to start 1st July for 6 months.
