Recent Shell Energy Price Hike

It turns out that Shell Energy have just announced a price increase mid contract. That's on the £19.99 a month deal, reduced by £60 credit after 3 months.
So if they increase it after 6 months, you're entitled to leave, which I'll be doing. So, I'll have paid 6x£19.99 = £119.94 less £60 which I've already had back, so I'll have paid £59.94 for 6 months broadband.
A bargain, I believe. And I will be leaving them to take advantage of their largesse whilst trying to bilk customers mid contract.

I suppose they need to finance the generous bill credits currently on offer to new subscribers and they decided to try unsuspecting current subscribers.I wonder what they will do if the number of new subscribers joining is much lower than the number of existing subscribers leaving. And then what they will do if these new subscribers also leave mind-contract due to price hikes. It doesn't seem like they have thought this strategy through properly. Or maybe they have?0

I've received the same email from Shell Energy Broadband. The email says I can cancel the contract within the next 30 days without incurring cancellation charges, and that I'm to call them to discuss my options.
Firstly, do I actually need to call them for someone to manually approve the cancellation charge waiver?
Secondly, does the switch to a new provider have to have been completed within 30 days, or does the switch just need to have been started within 30 days (bearing in mind that the switch process can take 2-3 weeks). I ask because the best deal right now in my area according to MSE is effectively £15.66/month (including incentives) for broadband and line rental - which is significantly higher than I've paid in previous years, so I'd want to wait a few weeks to see if anything better comes along.0 -
One month into new contract and they email informing me of auto upgrade to fibre and £2 a month price increase, I either take it or leave!

Thanks for this. It says I'm being upgraded to their Superfast Fibre package, although I'm not sure this is something I need, as I've never really had problems with broadband speeds on non-fibre broadband.JJ_Egan said:(Firstly, do I actually need to call them for someone to manually approve the cancellation charge waiver?)YES other wise you pay balance of contract .What fibre are you being upgraded to ?0 -
I had similar experience with BT and the cashback was more than I paid them. Funny thing was I rang them and said keep the price the same and I'll stay but they couldn't do it apparently and instead paid me for 4 months of broadband35moss said:It turns out that Shell Energy have just announced a price increase mid contract. I have found a new contract with a different provider that I would like to sign up to.
Do I sign up with them first, and when I get a "go live" date from the new provider I call Shell to end the current contract? What happens if the new provider can't start the service before 11 January?

I wonder if they'll be applying the £15 cease charge for customers moving due to their price increase0

I've had the same email from them (Upgrading me to Superfast Broadband) which I don't need or want & have told them so and I've asked them to honour our original contract & leave me on Fast Broadband @ £19.99 p/m but have also asked for clarification re the £15 "Cease Charge" if I leave them, shan't hold my breath for a quick response though, they'll wait until the 30 days have elapsed,no wonder we're called "Rip Off" Britain.0
