When rent day falls on a weekend or bank holiday, when would landlord expect payment?

. . . I pay most of my bills by Direct Debit and where my phone or electric or whatever falls due on a Saturday, they will not claim the Direct Debit until the Monday.  Example, my broadband falls due on the 5th of each month.  If the 5th was a weekday they'd debit my account on that date, but this month the 5th is a Saturday and they are taking the Direct Debit on the Monday.    . . .
I noticed that Halifax collected on the DD for my CC payment on a Friday last month when it was due by the Saturday.

Seemed fine to me - it was due by a date rather than on.

I have just set up payment for rent for the quarter beginning 25 December.  I'm actually paying it tomorrow rather than waiting for Christmas Eve but I certainly wouldn't expect it to be acceptable to be paid on 29 December.

i have had DD collected the day before if the day falls on the weekend or bank holiday as well.

The default is that rent is to be paid at the latest on the due date, not as soon as you manage afterwards.

For example, the traditional quarter days are still popular for payment of quarterly rent in commercial leases - one of which is, inconveniently, Christmas Day. Which in practice means the rent has to be paid on the last banking day before the 25th. Pay on the 27th and many leases will permit the landlord to charge two days' interest for late payment.

If its set up with a standing order then if the due day falls on a weekend the payment will just come out the next working day. I have rented for years with different landlords and I never even thought about this being a problem and no one has ever mentioned it.

If you already have the standing order set up just leave it to it.

IMHO, Nope:  Xmas day is a bank holiday, so - see Shelter legal
    """

    General points

Rent becomes due on the morning of the day specified for payment in the lease or tenancy agreement, but is not overdue and the landlord does not have cause of action, until midnight on that day.[1] Rent can be payable on a Sunday, but where the rent due day falls on a bank holiday, it will not be payable until the following day.[2]

        """""
the [2} is a reference to s.1 Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 see

"""" (4) No person shall be compellable to make any payment or to do any act on a bank holiday under this Act which he would not be compellable to make or do on Christmas Day or Good Friday; and where a person would, apart from this subsection, be compellable to make any payment or to do any act on a bank holiday under this Act, his obligation to make the payment or to do the act shall be deemed to be complied with if he makes or does it on the next following day on which he is compellable to make or do it.  """"

Anyone got authority that beats legislation, please??
    Best wishes to all.

And. as I noted before, beware(if you are a landlord or exploit to the hilt (if you are a tenant) tenancies (or any other bill) requiring payment on 29th, 30th or 31st.

Exactly.  I'm really astonished by the tone of some of the comments, as if I'm some sort of deadbeat for my Standing Order going out on the 1st working day after the due date when or if due date falls on a weekend/bank holiday

    Yeah, same here.

I would have thought since most landlords would have tenants paying by standing order, that it would just be common knowledge that some banks would not pay the Standing Order on a weekend and it will come the next working day.

If the tenancy states rent is due on 31st of the month, tenants could argue there are only 7 months rent due (no 31st in Feb, Apr, June, Sept, Nov).   Certainly landlords would be advised to not have rent due date-in-month later than 28th - if only to avoid long court arguments.

Appreciate court might decide in favour of landlord, but who wants the delay & fuss & expense?? Hey, free country, your choice!!
