Is Octopus the best?

Going with Octopus would cost me an additional £130 p.a. I'm currently with Avro (for the second time) and so far, so good. (Got £60 out of them in 'penalties' last time I switched but... hey ho!)#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

Moving from Octopus to Avro would cost me far more than that...
... but I do understand that the ToU tariffs are not what everyone wants...0 -
Octopus have some really interesting tariffs (Tracker, Go, Agile) for those that like to use less energy by moving their usage to different times, or have high usage devices like EVs or electric heating. However, their "normal" tariffs are awfully expensive.

There customer support was dire, when my parents E7 meter day/night readings got swapped. Then when it was finally sorted 6 months later, and account was then £3000 in credit, they refused to refund. So we switched supplier.

So your parents lost £3000 😲 ?bubieyehyeh said:There customer support was dire, when my parents E7 meter day/night readings got swapped. Then when it was sorted and account was £3000 in credit, they refused to refund. So we switch supplier.
If it was me I would raise a complaint with OFCOM !0 -
So we switched due to dire customer service, to a cheaper tariff, and they then refunded the credit.MikeE67 said:

Thank goodness for that !So we switched due to dire customer service, to a cheaper tariff, and they then refunded the credit.0 -
That is an odd story for sure.Their own DD management system actually prompts you to accept a refund when your account balance gets too high, so no idea what happened there...2

If you request a new smart meter with them, do they asked for any payment or commitment ? I would like to access to the Agile tariff0

Smart meters are installed free of charge in accordance with Government policy. That is not to say that they are free. The £13Bn cost of the UK’s smart meter programme is being recovered with costs added to all our future energy bills. You are free to switch from any of Octopus’ tariffs at anytime without exit fees.pokora said:If you request a new smart meter with them, do they asked for any payment or commitment ? If monthly billing is important to you, I should warn you that Agile is a BETA product and the loss of just one 30 minute period of usage data will stop Octopus’ automatic billing process which often requires manual intervention. Agile prices have also increased over the past few months which reflects the increase in electricity wholesale prices.1
