Eon, have I paid to much
Hi forum team,
I’m Miss Kay Maddocks. I’m not the brightest star but 17/11/20 I rang Eon about my bill. Been with them for two years. This last year I thought my bill seemed high considering it’s just me, my partner and two dogs.
I have paid £81.00 month based on Eon recommendation. In August looked at bill £££££ in debt!! I rang to change D/D £150.00 month and have smart meters fitted. I told Eon I’m not on ecommy 7 but again, its cheaper at night is their reply, (admitted 11yrs we have lived here telling all suppliers no economy 7 but the same, it’s cheaper!!). Yesterday I paid on top £1195.09 in full.
So far for the year £2455.09 I have paid. Does this seem a lot to you? If you could advice/help? Im changing to Octopus on the 20th Nov but Eon said yesterday “no, because I still owe due to quarterly and they supply my electricity”. My contract is up on the 29th Nov.
I was very upset and frustrated and it doesn’t help I have mental issues and I’m thickish!
Yours sincerely
Kay Maddocks

Unless you live in a big draughty barn it does seem a lot, but if your bills have been estimated because you haven't sent regular meter readings you may have been repaying a lot of debt. You need to think in kWh to get an idea of whether your consumption is high. If you are all-electric or on an uncompetitive tariff then your bills will also be high - how much are you paying per kWh and what are the daily charges? If you have storage heaters you need to be on Economy 7, but otherwise it's probably not for you.1

Kay - the important thing is not what you are paying but the energy consumed - that's kWh - and to determine that needs accurate and regular meter readings. Meter readers come very rarely these days - so it's down to you to read the meters. If you don't do that the supplier will be guessing - and those guesses can be very wrong - they may be high or very low. These estimates will appear on the bills with the letter E against them.
So the first question is -- have you been reading your meters and giving them to Eon ?
Have you got your bills - or are they all on line ?
Go back in time and find a bill where the readings have the letter A against them. Now read your meter today. You can do some sums and work out your annual consumption - that is what you need to give suppliers like |Octopus. What figures did you give Octopus?
Quarterly statements on line can be difficult to understand - they show your DD's but not the energy consumed.
If you have night storage heaters then generally E7 is cheaper - but when you give us your annual consumption we can advise more.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
A big thank you for replying. The property apparently had storage heaters years ago. We have never had storage heaters or economy 7. We have always given quarterly and monthly meter readings (that’s been with any supplier with have used over the years). I have always paid D/D. Bills have always been online. I will show the above info to my partner. See what kWh, any E against any of the readings and annual. Hopefully these smart meters will help with the new supplier. Thank you again Kay0

Replacement of Storage Rads ! Have you got those super panel heaters filled with magic dust ? Can you see a plate giving a make and model number?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

For heating, a log burner in the front room. Gas heating for the rest and water. Electric for lights, cooking etc. I will look on line for the meter readings. Thank you0

Could you photo your meter please ? It's very easy to misread a meter - modern ones have a decimal point that's easy to miss, some old ones have dials which go in different directions.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

When were the meters fitted as they're smets2 so must be fairly modern. I'm wondering if the wrong removal readings were recorded and that's what's caused the large balance. Can you post as many (actual) reads as possible since you've been with e.on.0
