Imported parts are up in price because of the pre-Brexit shipping gridlock at Harwich/Felixstowe. They are probably importing through other ports instead which pushes the freight cost up.
And we can expect another 10% on everything come January 1st of course...

    £80 for a pollen filter?

    On what?

I presume that’s parts and labour.

I bought a cheapo carbon activated one for my S6 for the princely sum of £7.50 wind fitted it myself. I’d best shut up. I’m sounding like the man himself.

Yes, parts and labour for a Mercedes E-class at an independent specialist, not main agent.
If the filters are only around a tenner perhaps I should fit one myself.

Ah - thought you meant just for the part...
  • eurocarparts - my favorite shop atm.  recently paid 46p for a crossland oil filter, £1.19 for the air filter and £11 for 5L of triplex oil

Crosland is owned by Eurocarparts now I think. I think they source their filters from anywhere in the world now. Maybe India or China. I saw a Youtube video once where they dismantled them and I wasn't happy with their quality. I won't touch them. I think the oil is probably OK but I always buy Comma who are a very high quality and trusted but lesser known brand. Incidentally I bought the parts from Carparts4less. The last time I used them I paid extra for 24 hour delivery and they took a week to arrive. This time I asked for slow delivery but it has been really quick.

There's nothing wrong with Bosch filters - just as good as Mann.

I've never found ECP particularly good on prices, with far too much emphasis on their own-brand rubbish. I tend to look at Mister-Auto before ECP/CP4L. Or just see what's available on Amazon/eBay - obvs, anything not mentioning brand gets ignored. Fluids usually from Opie.

As far as "massive hike" goes, surely this is actually "BF discounts not as big as I was expecting"?

bosch is one of those companies that used to produce tools and then they just started putting their brand name on everything - stuff that they don't even produce. IIRC bosch car batteries are basically rebranded varta and if you shop around you can get slightly high spec varta ones for for the price of a bosch battery.

I very much doubt bosch are making car air filters, probably crosland or mann filter rebranded.

I was quoted £140 from Peugeot to change my pollen filters on my 5008.
Its a pig of a job, but only takes me 20-30 mins.
I tend to use only Mann filters for pollen, oil, fuel and air.
Got them cheap from Amazon and parts in motion.
The oil is a killer £45-50 for 5L.

I've noted that ECP is significantly more expensive than it used to be for anything. Local motor parts shop is still as cheap as ever so use them 100% of the time now. Lack of delivery the only minor inconvenience.
