Are you going to buy again? Did you sell any in the last year? Did you buy any recently?

Is Bitcoin subject to capital gains tax?

Yes, so record keeping is important. There have been several threads where people have struggled to calculate their liability.

That 50/50 split may be the case amongst those who have bought BTC, but no way is that split valid for everyone on the internet, and I'm amazed you think people think it is either one or the other. Have you looked into the Illusory Truth Effect?

I'd suggest 90%+ think its nothing more than a gamble (ie. the greater fool theory).

Do you think it is an asset that will increase in value or store of wealth? If the former, is it because you think it will grow more than other investments you could invest in, or part of a more defensive small part of an overall investment strategy?

People who try to argue that BTC has some unique value as a currency run into one enormous problem, namely that it is far from unique. In fact, the idea that there's a maximum number of BTC, thus avoiding inflation, falls down because there's no limit to the number of alternative e-coins that can be created.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

So they can simply argue that BTC has some unique value as a currency instead then?

It probably is of some interest if you want to remain anonymous.

Good to see you back Scott - my preferred opposing view on bitcoin!

Any changes in mindset lately? Did the fall from $120k cause you any grief? Where do you see the uptick going - back to $120k, more, to the moon?!

    Haha hello mate,

I don’t really wanna just pop up when it’s green again but you know how it is, couldn’t resist scrolling a couple of pages to see if there was any updates, haven’t logged in here in a few months

I’d love to say I sold the top at 120 but as usual I got caught offside thinking the bull would keep going! I was loading up around 60 again when it started to look like support though

Macro is interesting with war, Trump etc and seems AI stole a lot of Crypto’s thunder.

I’ve been in the scene a long time, ICOs, random altcoins, staking, all sorts, had some big wins and plenty of disasters but part realisation and part having my first kid in December I’ve trimmed most of the weird longshot bags now. I know loads of people who went BTC only in recent years and that’s probably the most simple play.

BTC can be your global index fund, set and forget

Alts can be your single stock picks if you fancy a bit of a punt

Back to $120-150k in time I think, short term might just retrace again and chop around and be boring, hopefully not
