Finally sorted out new SIM card. Having checked out the MSE comparison table, went on to Lebara to purchase the £5 pm deal: 2GB data, unlimited calls and texts. Currently offering 50% off your next 6 months worth of bills: so £2.50 pm for next 6 months then up to £5 - which is still cheaper than I was paying with current network. I thought this was a brilliant deal and wanted to share it.

Are you sure about that? I signed up to Lebara the day before their new offer came out so I missed out but, as far as I can see originally Lebara offered 2GB data, 1000 minutes and 1000 texts but the MSE deal was unlimited calls and texts. Lebara's own offer is now half price but I don't think the MSE offer has changed. I could have benefitted from the Lebara "sale" but heavier users could miss out.

For better for worse, I signed up for the £2.50 offer, which includes up to 100 international minutes. No indication is given as to whether calls to mobiles are included. (A similar offer from Lyca includes mobiles as well as landlines.)
I can afford an investment of £2.50 to check, before deciding whether to continue.1 -

That's not a bad deal. I'm with them already on a uSwitch monthly sim only plan (£4.95 2Gb data, 1000 minutes, unlimited texts). The same as their £5 reduced to £2.50 for 6 months (except for texts). It's only a week until my next month is debited. I wonder if their system would allow me to sign up for the £2.50 deal and PAC my existing Lebara number?I doubt it very much! Probably more than enough hassle for £12."Also when I started to activate account it offered me £10 credit to port my number across".Yes, I received that and it's remained in my account since. It was credited once the port had completed.

Having promoted the Lebara sim I can't get it to work with my phone! Lebara says that it's locked which is not what I thought. Does anyone have any experience of the following:
Phone (old but absolutely fine Nokia) originally was on Vodafone but has been used on at least one other network, 02. Hence thinking that it was unlocked. It is has not been used on Vodafone network for long time. Looking at Vodafone's website for how to request unlock code, it's sending me round in circles. My experience of dealing with Vodafone's customer services has been very poor and I don't fancy another extremely lengthy, and usually ineffective, webchat with them.
Any advice? I really don't want to take out another Vodafone account just to get the phone unlocked if I can help it.

You can probably get an unlock code on eBay.0

I am after a sim only deal for my grandson. I’m unclear what if he uses up all his data/minutes - how do you get more? I don’t want the bill to be more than the £2.50 or £5.00

Also when I started to activate account it offered me £10 credit to port my number across- In order to qualify for £10 credit, customer should have successfully ported into Lebara from their previous network and subsequently made a purchase of £5.
- Unlimited calls and SMS are subject to a fair use policy. Lebara may, at its one discretion, interrupt unlimited calls after 3000 minutes by month or interrupt unlimited SMS after 1000 SMS per month. In such case, calls made above 3000 minutes and SMS sent above 1000 will be charged at the standard rate.
- Passes and Plans that include minutes for calls made to non Lebara numbers can be made to both landlines and mobiles in the UK (landline calls are those made to area codes 01, 02 and 03 excluding Channel Islands and Isle of Man or calls to Premium Rate or Special numbers. Calls to 0800, 0845 or other “toll-free” numbers or calls to personal (070) numbers are too excluded).
- All Plan and Passes includes free Lebara to Lebara UK calls and SMS. UK SMS are capped with a fair usage limit of 200 SMS per day.
- SMS character limit is 160 characters.
- MMS cap is 300 kilo bytes, exceeding will cost you standard rate.
