Whatever the period you are in the DMP you will feel much calmer as you don't have to worry anymore and if you have any problems then you can call them and they always understand. Our first DMP period of time was so long it was scary but when we worked out that paying the minimum on the cards would take so much longer to repay it made it a bit better. The budget took a bit of getting used to but it is fine and you are going to be clear of this by just handing over so much a month and then forgetting about it.
The hardest bit is the start, once you are half way through it is so much easier. Good luck0 -
Nothing constructive to add really, would just like to wish you luck with the DMP - my OH is on one with CCCS (I arranged it all lol!) and it's the best thing he's ever done - in fact now we budget for everything and don't waste money, we actually seem to be better off and can afford the occasional treat every once in a while. And it's forced me to take my head out of the sand with my (2) credit cards, and get those paid off too - I get annoyed now when I look at how much I pay them every month, and how much they take in interest. That is enough to spur me on to pay them off! Keep at it and the debts will reduce in no time.:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Well done you - you must be shattered after such a "heavy" day so I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight.
You have taken some very big steps today. Keep posting here, and let us know how you are getting on. Rant away, scream, shout, and maybe even have a bit of a laugh too

hi all
well I have to say I slept like the proverbial log last night...not eaten much over past 2 days tho so going to spend 70p and go to breakfast club this morn...(is that naughty?)
Waiting on CC bills to arrive then will call CCCS...noticed a couple of you saying it takes a few months to be arranged...what do I do in the meantime with the CCs? Do I continue to make minimum payments?
I know I am full of so many questions but they keep cropping up lol!

I am glad you slept well last night - the relief of making the start to get things sorted must be huge.
There is a DMP Mutual Supporters thread on here that is never far away from the first page. If you haven't already done so, then head over there and have a read through - the support there is fantastic as everyone is going through the same thing, and they will be able to talk you through timescales based on their own experiences.
I'm not in a DMP (still paying horrid interest!) so can't help on the technicalities, but plenty on here are, so will be able to give you loads of info as and when you need it.
I hope you have a good day at work xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Good Morning Topsy,
Just wanted to post and offer my support to you and your dfw journey.
Telling the hubby about the level of debt was the harderst thing I had to do, it is joint debt but because I deal with all the finances I somehow took all the blame for it, he just laughed and said we are in it together. That was in October and we haven't looked back. He sold his beloved car and bought a moped, we cancelled our Sky Television which felt like cutting off an arm and jiggled around a few things.
I find that reading the debt diaries help a lot to keep my motivation high, everyone is so nice and friendly here, I find it so humbling that these people will take time out of their busy lives and their own dfw journey to help you, it really is such a supportive network.
I wish you well with your journey

Good morning,
I am glad to see you are feeling much better. Well done! I know exactly how you felt about telling your OH - it's so scary. But, you did it and he has been fantastic. I only told my OH earlier this year and it was so upsetting but he has been 100% behind me all the way and it was only when he realised how hard I had been working and still getting nowhere that we looked at other options and decided upon a DMP.
I only made my first payment to Payplan in November and already 2 creditors have contacted me accepting my reduced payments. MBNA credit card have accpted and stopped all interest and charges and Barclay loan have accepted the reduced payments.
Def go over to the DMP mutual support thread - you will see that there are so many of us in the same boat. I have now read it from beginning to end as it does give you quite a lot of information on there. Also every one is so friendly and always happy to help.
Good luck xx0 -
