Hi all
don't often post and have been away for a while...had my head stuck in the sand....can't sleep tonight for worrying about my debts....tossed and turned for what feels like an eternity and thought I better get up before I woke up my darling other half...
Think I am getting close to my lightbulb moment but not sure which way to turn...
Just want to have a day where my wages are mine and not all my creditors....or their ridiculous interest rates!
27k in debt and not even a mortgage to show for it....feel disgusted....
Please be gentle....

Hey Topsy,
Try not to be too hard on yourself. The people here either are, or have been, in the same boat. Believe it or not, someday your wages will be yours. It's hard to see that sometimes. I know how difficult it can be as I already have £23k of debt and that doesn't include my student loans.
Try to stay positive and just chip away at the debts with whatever spare cash you've got. You will do it one day.Reality check - hit rock bottom on 15 Dec 2008 with unsecured debts of £29,136 and not enough money to live on
:j NOW DEBT FREE!!!! :jI try to take life one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once

27k in debt and not even a mortgage to show for it
This is great news though - you've not p155ed off any mortgage companies for when you DO want one!
And - you're not trapped in a house you can't move out of because you owe too much on it and have too much emotional attachment to it.
£27k isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things.
Post your SOA and let the experts here help you see the ways out that are open to you!
Chin up.... at least you now know you're not alone in being awake at this time of night!0 -
Topsy, its easier said than done but a postive outlook will do you wonders. Face up to the debt, maybe have a little cry, take a deep breathe and vow to do something about it. There is so much help here, you can find the strength to fight it. Total debt £21,000 :eek:Weight loss to date - 2 st, 2lb:j0

Morning Topsy,
It is a really good feeling when you have your LBM and let these good people on here help you. Many of them will suggest CCCS and Payplan which are excellent companies for helping you sort your finances, but I have just started to use CAP (Christians against Poverty) and no you don't have to go to Church to use their service!!! But what I liked about them was that they came to my flat, they didn't judge me, they were calm and took my paperwork away and within a few days my finances were in order.
And because its a charity - its free!
Maybe this post is too soon for you but I do hope that things work out well for you. Please try not to worry, things WILL get better and let these good people on here help xxChristians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
Hi there, I hope you managed to get some sleep last night.
As mentioned above, have a look at the sticky for newbies at the top and post your SOA. You have taken the biggest step, by coming on here in the first place. If you have been lurking, you will see the support that is given on this site, and you can benefit from it pretty quickly.

Thanks everyone....having a little cry here....am at work now...(good I wish people would read the 'do not disturb sign' on my office door!!! The problems with being a SENCO at a huge school!!!!)
My other problem is my darling partner...he knows I have debt but I do not think he knows the full extent...while he thinks I have been getting out of it I have in actual fact been getting in deeper...I have hidden all my statements from him. I live with him...he has the mortgage I pay a small amount of rent and we have seperate bank accounts.
If I go down the IVA route will any of his assets be affected?
Would the IVA route stop them putting interest on my Credit Cards? Or could I request that without going down the IVA route?
Thanks in advance

The IVA route should probably not be necessary - it really is a last resort, as it can lead to bankruptcy if you do not stick with it.
Have a look on the CCCS website (links on the top of this board I think) and put the numbers in their debtremedy thing - they can give you options about a Debt Management Plan etc, whereby interest and charges generally get frozen and you pay an agreed manageable amount each month until it is cleared. They are very good about not telling partners too! The best thing is that it is free - CCCS, Payplan and National Debtline will do this without charging a fee, so they are the best people to go to. You can give them a call too, but if you are at work, it may be easier to do the online version.
Don't worry (easier said than done, I know) but you have made a start now -that is the most important thing.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hi
I would ring your creditors up and explain to them that you can't meet the monthly payments and that you will be forwarding to them your expenditure form this is all your outgoings ie water, electric, gas ect and also your wages for the month and a list of all your creditors and what you intend to pay them, they will get back to you and put you on a dmp themselves your credit file will be affected but it will make you feel alot better keep your chin up there is light at the end of the tunnel.
