Retiree declined Barclaycard Rewards card

Good to hear it. You've satisfied their lending criteria and fit their desired profile customer base, and you'll soon have a card in your pocket that does what you want. I still wouldn't worry too much about the Barclaycard one though. You win some, you lose some.0

As other posters have reported, being approved and receiving a card and PIN doesn't stop an issuer from immediately closing the account with no explanation.cymruchris said:and you'll soon have a card in your pocket that does what you want.0 -
Barclays don’t like disabled people full stop it seems- I’ve had two consecutive complaints upheld and compensation paid (not insignificant sums either) as they have admitted that they have and continue to treat me less favourably as I am disabled. The complaint is currently with the FOS though.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.201

You’re a shining beacon of positivity 😂 l’m sure the op will soon be back if that happens though. Fingers crossed it’ll all go smoothly 👍Chino said:

Well done! If more people defended their rights like you did Barclays would behave in a more responsible manner than they do currently.

They will just apologize for an incorrect advice being given.Oxy1 said:In a way I would say the applicant is very lucky that he was given that reason as it enables his to lodge very excellent complaint to the Ombudsmen.
As the incorrect advice didn't lead to a loss then you might get some "go away" compensation if you complain to Barclays about the reason given, but if they do then the ombudsman is unlikely to offer you any further compensation.

The OP should follow Oxy1 ,s template letter guide and write to barclaycard as it may pan out in his favour ?
Then in six months reapply with barclaycard ...the Clarity card will have cash advance costs... its not what it once was so the barclaycard is less cost to use .
It doesnt hurt too have a backup card for uk and/or overseas spending ie two cards such as the clarity and barclaycard0 -

A reply along the lines "Sorry our employee misinformed you about the reason for rejection. The reason why you were declined was not because you are retired. But we no do have to give you the reason and will not give it to you," is unlikely to be convincing to Ombudsmen / Equality Commission. It is more likely that, at the very least, when faced with a properly worded complaint, Barclays will provide real reasons for rejection (assuming being retired is not the real reason) in much more detail than they would normally do.They might even change their decision. Even if they do not change their decision, knowing true reasons for rejection might help OP make further representations, or example if he learns that the rejection is based on wrong or misinterpreted information.0 -
Don't believe everything you read in the press. Not every job is at risk because of COVID and BREXIT.Silvertabby said:
So you are saying that someone on minimum wage in a job that could be axed at any time is a better bet than a pensioner with a guaranteed income of much more than minimum wage?bradders1983 said:The 3 digit score is meaningless as no lender ever sees it. Get over that, check your credit file for mistakes/ommissions, and bear in mind lending at the moment is getting tighter and so their comment about only lending to those in employment seems fair and certainly along the lines of being a responsible lender.
I don't think so. We are both retired and took out a personal loan for car purchase just a couple of weeks ago. £12K at 2.8% and the money was in our account the next day. I accept that as this was from our bank (TSB) they could see our incomings and outgoings, but clearly being retired wasn't an issue.0
