Problems with E-ON

  • Thanks Mal. I find the E.on bills very confusing, looking at an earlier one, it says: Exit Fee (only applies if you leave more than 49 days before your tariif ends) No exit fee if you switch supplier.

The tarirf is an easy one, it's E-on Energy Plan. I'll have a look and see if I can find the other figures.
eon EnergyPlan is their standard variable priced tariff with no exit fees, so you can most definitely get on a far cheaper tariff by switching!

@Fiestared    A quick look gives Shell for Electricity at £376 and Zog for gas at $473    -  payable by DD

That's a saving of £120 for Electric and £225 for Gas

Just found a few figures that say: Estimated use in the last 12 months Electricity 2,084 kWh Gas 16,038 kWh
    Hope that helps.
Why is the use estimated?,are you sending meter readings?.

Use one of the comparison sites as recommended above.
Generally dual fuel is more expensive.
What was the start date of your Eon tariff - watch out for exit fees perhaps £30 a fuel ie £60

I have been with E-ON for a number of years but recently, along with many others it would seem I have been having problems. For some reason E-ON will not send me a bill through the post, they say that as I have an online account they can't do this. I've had the online account ever since I joined them and have always had bills through the post.
Can anyone please advise if any other provider will send bills through the post and is it worth looking at switching my account to someone else?

Good evening FiestaRed, hope you’re well.

I see your query has evolved somewhat from your original post but I’d still like to help out a little if I can.

Admittedly we are making a push for customers to receive their bills online. This, of course, saves on paper and makes things easier for us too. However there’s absolutely no obligation to receive your bills electronically. We have many customers who prefer to receive their bills through the post which is no problem at all.

You can change your billing preferences through your online account. Hopefully it’s relatively easy to find. You can do this whilst keeping the online account to provide meter readings etc. If you need to request past bills to be posted there may be a charge of £1. But if you change your preferences today then any bills produced after this date will be posted to you automatically at no fee.

It’s great to see that this query has prompted you to ensure you’re getting the best possible deal, as we always recommend customers check. You can check tariffs through your online account with us as well as checking other options on comparison sites as others have mentioned. Keep hold of those annual consumption figures as they will ensure you’re provided with quotes that reflect your actual usage rather than simply low, medium or high.

    Thanks, Matt

It's effectively a box where the exit fee would be shown, but on your mega-expensive tariff there isn't any exit fee.  That's good news because now there's simply no excuse not to save money by switching today, preferably to separate suppliers (unless you can find one where dual fuel is cheaper). But do resolve to send meter readings every month.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Matt, really appreciated.
As you can see I've only highlighted one part of your reply and that is where you say I can change my preferences online. Other agents from E.ON tell me differently. I am now being told that as long as I keep my online account, "MY ONLY OPTION IS PAPERLESS" and if I wanted bills through the post, I had to close my online account. (E.ON message below)
For me this is the whole problem with E.ON everybody tells you different things and I personally feel I'm being conned into going paperless against my wishes.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Message from E.ON staff: "I've tried a account reset to allow you to do this. If it does not work if you want paper bills then we can look to cancel the online account to allow you to have them. ^Hayden"
  • Hi,
when you sign on to your account untick the box 'Yes I want paperless bills'.
