As of 4am today:

- All flights between the UK and Denmark, Faroe Islands & Greenland were suspended.
- Everyone who has returned from Denmark, Faroe Islands or Greenland in the past 14 days has been told to self-isolate, even those who returned before the Denmark travel corridor was removed.
- Anyone living with someone who has returned from Denmark, Faroe Islands or Greenland in the past 14 days also has to self-isolate.

None of the normal exceptions apply to the above so even airline crews and their families are now being forced to self-isolate.

Anyone trying to use any loopholes to go abroad (or to go abroad for pleasure from Scotland, Wales or NI) might want to take the above in to consideration.  There was no real warning of it happening and only a couple of weeks ago the government put Denmark back on the travel corridor list.

Pesky Mink have a lot to answer for, poor little critters are paying the price.
Looks like I am grounded for the rest of the year with Germany and Sweden joining the list as well recently.
My remaining trip to Venice in December has just been cancelled by BA.

Not sure the U.K. even had direct air service to Greenland or the Faroe Islands before this latest development with mink farms.  It does of course add to the drama...

There were flights to the Faroes from Scotland, but that was a couple of years ago when I last looked I think.

Hopefully, everyone will see the seriousness of this and comply. Also it will be law within hours apparently, so no one can claim it’s only advisory.
first time I’ve seen a requirement for those in the same household as someone returning from abroad being obliged to isolate.

Depends on your definition of "serious" I suppose.

Nobody who contracts this strain is any worse off than someone contracting plain old-fashioned COVID so it's not serious in that regard.  That it's a different strain may reduce the effectiveness of the vaccines currently on trial but realistically, different strains popping up and making current vaccines less effective was pretty much inevitable, so not sure it's "serious" in that regard either.

Surprised you aren't busy advising SAGE today rather than posting on here. Covid experts are in short supply.

I'm sure they're perfectly capable of reading the reports out of Denmark showing those who've contracted it are no worse off than any other COVID patient.  But if they want to pay me a generous sum of money for regurgitating those reports, I'm more than happy to oblige.

I'm sure the biggest concern to governments worldwide is whether a vaccine will mean next year we can go back to normal, or whether it'll mean there's another variant circulating which the vaccine doesn't protect against, meaning we'll have another 18 months of COVID related restrictions even after most people have been given a vaccine.

Note that there are criminal charges you could be faced with if you take that hypothetical job paying a lot of money and then provide incorrect medical advice to the government which directly causes the death or serious illness of British citizens.

I think this has been one of the main causative factors in that previous advice should really have been more than that.
Too many work-arounds and too much of the “well its only advice”

Might be some “cheap” fur coats going around though

It is a first.  Even if someone in your household has been in direct contact with someone who has contracted COVID, then you aren't required to self-isolate if you haven't been in contact with that person and no-one in your household has developed symptoms.
