But if OP was using the PC for her business and potentially held client details on her PC, and these become leaked somehow to others, either through the business owner being negligent in some way, then repercussions from the ICO would not be pleasant. Even if OP is insistent it is a personal PC, I doubt there will be sufficient safeguarding of this data, if any!
All very valid commentary ... and all utterly irrelevant as to whether this was a Consumer purchase or a business purchase. :)
    It’s a business purchase.
Please explain exactly how you think the vendor is going to have any idea if it is a business purchase or not
I think some posters here cannot see the wood from the trees and start to be very unhelpfull in doing so
    Another example
I believe that there is absolutely no chance  of the ICO taking the slightest interest if there is a data leak from a small business
My understanding is that the fine range  is  .125% to 3% of turnover so a small web designer turning over  10K is going to be fined between   £12.50  and  £300.00
How much effort does anyone think the ICO will put into forcing through such a fine
They will have far bigger fish to fry.

Firstly, I do not disagree that focussing on the business aspect is unhelpful.

However, as for the fine, its 10million euros OR 2-4% of turnover, whichever is HIGHEST. Its not 4% of any business! its a HUGE fine. (other wise small businesses would just be like 'well whatevs we only have to pay a few quid fine')
  • Well if you'd read mine then you wouldn't have made such a foolish comment. ;)
Not as foolish as having a name that needs an explanation attached to a signature that most don’t even read /look at. ;)
I guarantee more people have thought what I did rather than see your sig and think “ah that will be why, shame he could’t think of anything else though”
